about

A creative spirit learns that thinking "ish-ly" is far more wonderful than "getting it right" in this gentle new fable from the creator of the award-winning picture book THE DOT.

Ramon loved to draw. Anytime. Anything. Anywhere.

Drawing is what Ramon does. It¹s what makes him happy. But in one split second, all that changes. A single reckless remark by Ramon's older brother, Leon, turns Ramon's carefree sketches into joyless struggles. Luckily for Ramon, though, his little sister, Marisol, sees the world differently. She opens his eyes to something a lot more valuable than getting things just "right." Combining the spareness of fable with the potency of parable, Peter Reynolds shines a bright beam of light on the need to kindle and tend our creative flames with care.
Peter H. Reynolds is the president and creative director of FableVisionStudios, the illustrator of the best-selling Judy Moody series, and theauthor and illustrator of THE DOT. "Nothing irks me more than seeing aperson's creativity get shut down," he says. "Through my books, I want to help give kids — and grown-up kids — the vocabulary...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from encouragement to find your own creative voice Ramon loves to draw. Anything. Anytime. Anywhere. One day his older brother scoffs at one of his drawings. That upsets Ramon so much he tries and tries to make his drawings perfect. He keeps trying, and crumpling the sheets of paper. When he decides he won't draw anymore, his younger sister tells him something that changes Ramon's whole perspective. He finds his own creative voice, which is what the author desires for everyone. It's a wonderful story that will encourage all ages.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wish I could put this in the hands of every child! This was one of the first books by Peter H. Reynolds that I ever read. And with each book I appreciate his writing and illustrations more. But this will always be one of my favorites, and a book I believe every child should read! The story is amazing and the illustrations wonderful. It will encourage children to try new things, and to keep at them even if they are not good from the start. They can do it sort of 'ish' and that is good enough. This is one of the best children's books I have ever read!
