Part One takes place at the time of the 'Gentleman Pirate,' Jean Lafitte. The facts known about this colourful character are interwoven with events and characters created by the author. His fabulous treasure has never been discovered but the story has its own explanation for what hapened to it.

Part Two is in modern times and takes place on the fictitious  Island Group where the treasure is hidden. The Island Group is run by a ruthless combination of Russian and American Mafias to launder the money made from their nefarious activities. A US intelligence agency foments a revolution on the Islands when it is discovered that the money laundering also includes payments to terrorist organisations. A group of holidaymakers are trapped in the revolution and the government want to kill them and blame the atrocity on the rebels in order to get international sympathy.

What they don't know is that one of the chosen victims is a former British SAS captain and there are two elderly ex-infantry colonels in the group. To survive, the fifteen people will have to make their way accross two islands to a third one, where a millionaire Argentinean keeps a vintage DC-3 aircraft. One of them can fly it. But there is a traitor in their midst.. They don't all make it to the airplane and when they do, their troubles are not over--a very exciting flight awaits them, fraught with danger and bad weather.

The surprising events in the escape lead to the discovery of Lafitte's treasure.
