About the Author

Upon graduating college at Oneonta, New York-and after a year-long stint as a waiter-James Preller was hired as a copywriter for Scholastic Publishers in New York. He worked on the SeeSaw Book Club, writing blurbs about thousands of children’s books. It was during this time that he first "met" authors such as James Marshall, Maurice Sendak, and others through their books. This experience inspired James to write books of his own. His first picture book, MAXX TRAX: Avalanche Rescue, was published in 1986. Since then, he has published a variety of books for children. His greatest professional achievement has been writing the popular "Jigsaw Jones" mystery series.
