"God told Jonah to obey,

said, 'Go to Nineveh this day.'

But, stubborn Jonah fled instead.

Didn't do just what God said."

Jonah's disobedience landed him inside a big fish! And there he had time to think and pray.

Children will feel the waves and hear the splash as Jonah sinks "down and down and down" into the belly of the fish. This story serves as an excellent reminder of how important it is to listen to God.

Customer Reviews of Jonah And The Great Big Fish

Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nicely illustrated with cute rhyming text This is a sweetly illustrated and very simple version of the story of Jonah and the whale. Soft, cartoony pictures accompany a couple of sentences on each page. The text rhymes and is easy to read. This would be a good book for preschoolers or just beginning readers. My kids and I enjoyed this retelling of the story, but my one concern is that I would have liked it to continue on a bit farther to see God's grace extended not only to Jonah but to Nineveh as well. It ends instead when Jonah agrees to obey God and go to Nineveh. But that being said, the text and illustrations are well done and it still does the story of Jonah justice as far as it goes. I received this book from Zonderkidz for the purpose of an honest review. My opinion is my own.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Jonah and the Great Big Fish written by Rhonda Gowler Greene and illustrated by Margaret Spengler Jonah and the Great Big Fish written by Rhonda Gowler Greene and illustrated by Margaret Spengler. Jonah's story is one I know pretty well, I've studied it during a group Bible Study and read it a few times. I thought that this children's book did a good job sharing the story. The illustrations are great and really kid friendly, my toddler just loved them! So colorful and charming and there's even a puppy in there too! The story has a nice rhythm and flow. It's a great bedtime story or anytime story. Samson enjoyed looking at all the pages and looking at all the pictures, even counting the shells and sea creatures on the inside covers of the book. He loves flipping the pages and telling me the story and making the big fish talk and adding lines for Jonah too! His favorite, "Thanks for the ride fishy!!". The only thing I would say I didn't really enjoy about the book is that the stops before the end of the story. I understand that it's titled Jonah and the Great Big Fish, and it makes sense to end it there, but I would of loved to have the whole story. All the way to the end of Ninevah. But it'a children's book and is made to be understood by little ones :) All in all, it's a great little book, very colorful and easy to read !
