The first adult novel from acclaimed, bestselling author Meg Rosoff, a perfect summer read about a young New Yorker whose career and love life are turned upside down when he starts taking care of his brother's two dogs.

Jonathan is a copywriter at Comrade advertising agency, working on the most lucrative and most numbingly tedious account, Broadway Depot. His best friend Max works at the next desk, keeping him sane. Jonathan's girlfriend, Julie, works for Bridal 360, an online wedding magazine. When Julie suggests they get married for a live online wedding feature, Jonathan finds himself on a conveyor belt, hurtling towards the rest of his life.
When his brother asks him to look after his dogs, Jonathan begins to see the world around him differently. Could a border collie and a cocker spaniel hold the key to his true happiness? Their sly maneuvering on daily walks and visits to Dr. Clare, the lady vet, suggest that dog sense is several notches higher than human emotional intelligence.
A contemporary romantic comedy set in Manhattan, Jonathan Unleashed is as much a love letter to the city as it is a story about tangled relationships, and dogs. Hilarious, wise and heart-warming, Meg Rosoff's novel will touch a nerve with anyone thinking about what they really want to do with their lives, and which eddy they might allow themselves to be caught in.
MEG ROSOFF was born in Boston, educated at Harvard and St Martin's College of Art, and worked in New York City for ten years before moving to London permanently in 1989. She worked in publishing, politics, PR and advertising until 2004, when she wrote her first novel, How I Live Now, which won the Guardian Children's fiction prize (UK)...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from First book I bought for my kobo I got a kobo for Christmas in 2016 and this was the first book I picked up. I totally picked since it was about a dogs and more specifically one border collie (which I have). I did enjoy the book, and found it very easy to read and surprising found it hard to put down since there was no real suspense or anything going on. It was just a good read, sorry I can't elaborate on that more for you...

Editorial Reviews

"Urbane, mordant, hilarious. . . . Edgy, incisive and vivid. . . . Rosoff ingeniously mingles pessimism and angst with her own inspired form of slapstick. Highly recommended." —Toronto Star"Charming. . . . A delightful romp." —USA Today"Very smart and extremely funny." —The Guardian (UK)"This is a witty, sardonic, thoroughly enjoyable Bildungsroman." —The Spectator (UK)"Part romance, part screwball comedy, part coming-of-age novel, Jonathan Unleashed is funny, smart writing from a novelist with such an assured voice that you can't resist accompanying her on the novel's journey." —Sunday Express (UK) "Fiercely funny. . . . I can't think of many recent novels that show the same almost Joseph Heller-like ability to express abiding pessimism with such irresistible comic zest—or that provide such a jolting reminder of the irreducible weirdness of a blameless adult life." —The Telegraph (UK)"After a prize-winning streak in young adult fiction, Jonathan Unleashed marks a swerve [for Rosoff] into novels for grown-ups, but her idiosyncratic storytelling chutzpah remains a constant. . . . It is also a brilliantly detailed snapshot of—to tweak the title of one of her finest novels—how we live now." —The Independent (UK)"Meg Rosoff is one of the greats of contemporary writing for children and young adults. . . . [Jonathan] is a terrific romantic comic hero, the sort of endearingly flawed human character the late, great Nora Ephron might have created. Like Ephron, Rosoff has a lightness of touch, and is also a clever comic writer: her dialogue is sharp, her characters keenly observed and ruthlessly well realised. She is a talented farceur, too, and there are some superb set-pieces. . . . that had me yelping with laughter." —The Sunday Times (UK)"Bestselling novelist Rosoff unleashes a lighthearted tale that explores the angst of new adulthood, digging up delightful insights about life, love and the unconditional friendship (and genius) of dogs. No bones about it, readers of this charmer are in for a real treat." —Kirkus Reviews"This is a filmic novel and has some of the makings of a New York-set romantic comedy. Quips come easily to Rosoff but the strength of Jonathan Unleashed is not just in its spark and wit; the real power of the book lies in its understanding of love." —Reader’s Digest (UK)"Jonathan Unleashed is unapologetically commercial, a generous slice of strawberry cheesecake." —The Times (UK)"I completely fell in love with Jonathan Unleashed, its confused but endearing hero, its wit, its portrait of New York and its dogs. It's the kind of romantic comedy, both wise and hilarious, I always hope to find in a movie and never do. I'm sure it's going to be a huge hit, and if it doesn't become a Nora Ephron-style film I'll be amazed. Even as a big fan of Meg's work, it took me by surprise." —Amanda Craig, author of Hearts and Minds
