about

Henry Fielding's comic novel "Joseph Andrews" was originally published in 1742 in two volumes. A takeoff on Samuel Richardson's "Pamela," it follows Pamela's brother Joseph in the model of the Tory satirists of the previous generation. Although begun as a parody, it became an accomplished novel and marks the beginning of Fielding's career as a serious novelist.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Story ♥ I remember buying this on sale for $5 in a bookstore; I was in a classical mood and I'm definitely glad I bought it!!! Reading Fanny's experiences brought to mind some of my own; we can both be very timid people, and I can relate to her views on the Crawfords. It's quite the tale of Regency manners and virtue as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's a classic I bought this during my trip to the Philippines, started in on the plane ride back to Canada and finished it a few days later after coming home. I've recently been on an Austen-reading mood and this is the third book I've read from her. I realized halfway through the book that it was much longer than Persuasion and Pride and Prejudice but I was very much into the story. Some do not like Fanny Price due to her timid nature but I think she is a strong woman in her own way. One does not need to be loud or hot-headed to be strong. I found her strong moral standing and firmness in her beliefs quite admirable. Even when those around her, including Edmund, were kind of being blinded by other people. It's short of a 5-star review but I'm sure if I reread this in the future my review can change.
