Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best historical fiction I've read. Ever. Couldn't put it down. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves historical fiction, a glimpse into the past, a love story, a tragedy and a truly touching story.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from La Merveilleuse I am a huge fan of historical fiction, and this is my first time reading about Josephine and her amazing life. I fell into her many worlds as told in a diary format and have been captivated throughout the thousand some odd pages. I was sad to finish it! Very well written and very good character development through the novels.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A spellbinding tale of the French Revolution My sister passed along this trilogy to me and I only wish I had been the one to discover Sandra Gulland first. Her three-novel series about the life of Josephine is thrilling, romantic, heart-breaking and insightful. Her story is a side of the French Revolution and life of Napolean I that I never knew. These novels are a must read for for history lovers who are inspired by powerful heroines.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! I love this book! It was so well written I was sad to be near the end of the book. The characters were life like and I learned a few things about Napoleon that I never knew. A grand read. I cried at three things in this book and felt I knew the characters intimately.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! If you're interested in history at all, then I highly recommend this trilogy. Even if you don't like history they are really good books that you learn a lot from!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing I was once told by a former manager that this trilogy would tell you everything you needed to know about the French Revolution without it being boring. She was right, but there is more to it than that. This trilogy is a realistic approach and look into a stunning life that isn't discussed as often as it should be. Rose, later Josephine, led an amazing, harrowing life, in the midst of numerous periods of chaos, and still managed to stand tall as she did so. I cannot recommend this enough for not only anyone interested in the French Revolution and the Nepoleonic Wars, but who also just loves a good piece of well-written and thorough historical fiction.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fascinating The book pulls you into Josephine B' s incredible life and carries you along - the journal style is surprisingly effective and keeps the reader eagerly anticipating the next day's entry. It is all very believable and when you put the book down it's a surprise to find yourself in our day and time - well written and researched the book offers a very readable and unique account of Josephine and Napoleon and their lives together.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stunningly written Would have put a plus sign behind those five stars if that was posiblee! This is a book I have read many times, and each time love it more and more. This book has also made me want to learn and read more about Napoleon, Josephine and family. It is all the little details that make you feel like you are part of their lives and living right along with them. It is a book that you will not want to put down and will not be disappointed with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I laughed, I cried, I fell in love with this book I can not put into words how well written this three books are. All historical fiction fans need to read this book. I loved it so much. I never did hear much of Napolen Bonaparte until I read this book. Now I think of Josephine as one of the most bravest, strongest, and smartest women in history. I can hardly wait to find and read other books about her. I am anxious to see how other authors have portrayed this complicated character.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favourite trilogy! This is an amazing trilogy! I am only sad that I have finished it and there are no more books by this author (until Sandra Gulland's new novel). There was never a dull moment. I just could not put it down!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing At first it starts off slow and it took me awhile to get into it, but then at page 100 or so i could barely put it down. I found it confusing at first since Josephine wasn't called Josephine first, it is a very emotional book and you start to have big ties to the characters as you read. You feel the pains of the mothers as they see there son go off to war and hear of their injuries. I enjoyed Josephines character as a child, a lover and a mother, I could relate to her in everyone. Sandra Gulland did a great job of writing, I berely put it down. I loved this book and might read it again for the fun of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Riveting Story When my sister called to tell me about this book - I had already bought it - I had heard some of the history involving this dynamic couple - but I had no idea of the amazing and full lives they had lived. From the humble beginnings in the Islands to the Empress of France - One of the best books I've encountered in a long time. A must read for any history buff!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it! Gulland's captivating novel left me wanting more. This book was my first real contact with Josephine or Bonaparte and I'm already seeking out other novels involving this remarkable couple and the turbulent era in which they lived. I called my sisters before I'd even finished to tell them to go get it. I knew right away I'd picked a winner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Trilogy I couldn't put these books down! Being transported to the Napoleonic era through Josephine's private journals was a journey I didn't want to end. Highly recommend the entire trilogy. Once you read the first one, you'll have to read the other 2 because you won't be able to put them down. Gulland brings Josephine and Napoleon to life; they are no longer stuffy figures from your history book but real people you want to meet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing This trilogy inspired my love of Napoleon, and these books are amongst my favourites. It truly is amazing though, the descriptions and format give you an insight into her soul almost. By the end of it you feel as if you know who she was. Keeping in mind that it is located under the fiction section, I can't say enough about how fascinating I found this trilogy.
