The boundary condition Of constant ?ux gives rise to a dis continuity Oi temperature over the boundary. From the point of view of the kinetic theory of gases, temperature conditions can not be strictly defined in the immediate neighborhood of the heated cylinder, and it is only at a distance of several free paths, when equi-partition of molecular energies is nearly complete, that temperature can strictly be defined and that normal thermal con duction takes place.
