Rated 4 out of 5 by from Something of Value to everyone This book came out a while ago, yet it still remains on my shelf as on of my favourites. The author describes the Miyax`a world in a humble, honest nature. When you read about the harsh Alaskan wilderness, The author`s writing is poetic and light, capturing Alaska`s rugged beauty. Her characters are well rounded, you feel empathy for Miyax and want her wolves to live. Her descriptions of her animal characters illustrate her knowledge of the natrual world and animal behaviour. I thought this book was wel written and honest, its a story about finding yourself, which I think all children can easily relate too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sarah's Julie of the Wolves Review Julie of the Wolves is a sad story of a young girl who's father dies. She is sent to live with her mean old Aunt Martha and is forced to sleep on a small cot near the front door. Julie runs away and joins a pack of wolves. They take her in and treat her like family. She learns to love them and realizes that everything should be treated equally. This book is good for ages 10 and up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Julie Of The Wolves This is an excellent novel that I had the privilege to read both for myself and with a group of bright sixth graders in a library setting of a public school here in Toronto. I was the librarian's assistant at the time assigned to a novel study group in the early 1990's. The book had many excellent qualities about it. The details of the surroundings, characters and emotions brought out a clear repertoire of what the author was trying to convey. The characters mostly being actual wolves and how the author described them both in name and actions were found very humorous. The idea of a wolf in the wild being called "Jello" because of its actions toward the girl in the story was ingenious. The author was also realistic in the depiction of the natural instincts and habitats of the characters. Seeing this book at Chapters brought back alot of fond memories of times past and of good wholesome novels in print for school children.
