Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional resource for ALL Managers. Just Promoted is an well written, tactically oriented book that gets right to the heart of what every manager needs to know – either when they have just been promoted, or when they have taken on a new team. Edward and Nila Betof go beyond just describing the highs, lows and experiences that new managers go through as they take on their new team. They provide a sound framework for assessing various different conditions, realities, personal abilities, political landscape, and direct report capabilities. Most books I have read in this genre do a good job of introspection, on what the manager must do, be like, expect, or change in order to succeed. Just Promoted discusses these points, but also looks externally, and advises the reader on what changes must take place there too – to drive to success. Just promoted most impressed me by the fact that it came out and addressed various situations that I have experienced in taking on new teams, and answered some questions on challenges I face today. Every HR professional should recommend this on to any and all top performers recently promoted into management, and to all management staff transitioning to a new assignment taking on a new team. Exceptional resource, with some very useful and simple analytic exercises. Highly recommended to all professional managers, and aspirant managers.
