Making a Murderer meets Scandal in this story of police corruption, family secrets, and illicit affairs from bestselling author K.A. Tucker, celebrated for her “propulsive plot twists and searing seduction” (USA TODAY).

Noah Marshall has known a privileged and comfortable life thanks to his mother, the highly decorated chief of the Austin Police Department. But all that changes the night she reveals a skeleton that's been rattling in her closet for years, and succumbs to the guilt of destroying an innocent family's life. Reeling with grief, Noah is forced to carry the burden of this shocking secret.

Gracie Richards wasn't born in a trailer park, but after fourteen years of learning how to survive in The Hollow, it's all she knows anymore. At least here people don't care that her dad was a corrupt Austin cop, murdered in a drug deal gone wrong. Here, she and her mother are just another family struggling to survive...until a man who clearly doesn't belong shows up on her doorstep.

Despite their differences, Noah and Gracie are searching for answers to the same questions, and together, they set out to uncover the truth about the Austin Police Department's dark and messy past. But the scandal that emerges is bigger than they bargained for, and goes far higher up than they ever imagined.

Complex, gritty, sexy, and thrilling, Keep Her Safe solidifies K.A. Tucker's reputation as one of today's most talented new voices in romantic suspense.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A riveting read! Keep Her Safe was a great way to begin my reading for 2018. It has set the bar high for all of the other books that I will be reading this year. I was expecting a riveting, suspenseful book with twists and turns that would keep glued to the pages, and that was exactly what I got. This is a superbly written novel that pulled me in immediately and didn’t let me go until the very end. K.A. Tucker has given her readers a story that is as intricately woven as the finest web. Half of the fun of reading a suspense novel is attempting to figure it all out before it unfolds at your fingertips. With several twists and turns along the way, I was kept on high alert, suspicious of almost every character that I encountered. I wasn’t sure who I could trust, what their true motives were, or what was awaiting me on the following pages. I think that we all like to fancy ourselves as being pretty good amateur detectives/sleuths when reading a suspense novel, but at the same time, nothing is better than having an author pull the rug out from under us, completely surprising the reader with a twist that we never saw coming. K.A. Tucker succeeded at shocking me, taking me completely off guard, and making my jaw drop. Thank you! I was instantly invested in the story and the characters. From the main characters to the minor characters, the author created them all with such care and depth. I felt as if I knew them, they became familiar to me, I cared for them, and I was drawn into their lives. Throughout the entire book, I was able to visualize every part as it played out. It all flowed effortlessly, with a perfect pace, building up the story and the anticipation for what was going to be uncovered. While reading Keep Her Safe, I wanted nothing more than to be convinced that there is still some honest, good, true people out there. It made me doubt the characters, their honor, and their respectable positions that they held in their community and in their own families. I think that it’s human nature to want to believe the best in people. We need to see the tiniest shred of light and goodness, despite all of the dark and ugly parts of the world and humankind. We want goodness to prevail over evil. K.A. Tucker touched on the dark and disturbing nature of the people that we hold in the highest esteem, she made it realistic and completely plausible. Keep Her Safe is a fantastic suspenseful novel that just hit all of the marks for me. It is an intense, intriguing, and consuming reading experience, but throughout all of the intensity, there are still a number of lighthearted scenes which left a smile on my face (shout out to Cyclops). While it is a suspense novel at heart, there is also a budding romance that added a little something extra to the overall story. I felt a plethora of emotions while reading this novel, but the final one was just being happy to be a reader. *I received a copy of the book from the publisher (via NetGalley).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Suspence done right I wasn't expecing to love this book as much as I do b/c I didn't really like He Will Be My Ruin. There was depth to the characters and the book held my interest. Totally worth a read if you're on the fence about it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it! This is an amazing thriller! There are so many emotions in this story. I was rooting for Noah and Grace. But I had sympathy for their situation. And the corrupt officials were so frustrating. I was emotionally invested in this story. K.A. Tucker did a fantastic job with this narrative! It switches between Noah and Grace, and occasionally returns to Abe and Jackie from fourteen years ago. It was fast paced so I was never bored. I loved the way the story unraveled through these different narrators. The mystery was great. There were twists and turns throughout the book. It was difficult to know where it would head next. The ending became very complex and unpredictable. Though I did suspect one person who was involved in the plot, I was surprised at the ending. I absolutely loved this book. If you’re looking for a gripping, thrilling mystery, this is the book for you! I received this book on NetGalley.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Intense Thrill Ride ! A Must Read** Honestly, I wish I had more time to read this week than I did...because this novel was a wild ride for sure. This was my first novel by K.A.Tucker, and I was not disappointed. This novel had me at the edge of my seat the entire time. I loved that it was told from different points of views and there were flashbacks. My goodness this story was just so complex and twisted. There were things I saw coming and then BAM!, others that were total surprises. I was highly interested in this novel right from the very first page. I will definitely be reading more of this author moving forward. I highly recommend this novel, it really is set up so you don't want to put this book down until it is finished!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A MUST READ! you think you know what to expect from an author K.A. delivers something that takes you to a whole new level. K.A. is known for her amazing contemporary romance and romance suspense, but MAN OH MAN is she phenomenal at writing straight up suspense. Twists, turns, and basically a roller coaster of emotions and unexpected revelations . While this book does have an element of romance, it's not the main theme. Having said that, you'll fall head over heels for Noah! Noah is the son of Jackie, the Austin Police Chief and he currently works in the District Attorney's office. He lives in a nice, posh neighbourhood, and he seems to have his life on track. That is until his life gets turned upside down after finding his mother dead in the kitchen from a gun shot. He is then given the task of delivering a package on his mothers behalf to a former colleague who she believed deserved to have it. Grace is the daughter of Abe a former disgraced Austin Police officer. Who just happened to be Jackie's former partner. 14 years later, after her father was found dead in a motel in what looks like a drug deal gone bad, she is now living in a trailer park with her strung out mother and a colourful variety of neighbours working a crappy job just to provide what she can. She is constantly coming home to find her mother over dosed on some drug she was able to score. ( I think my favourite character from the neighbourhood is the'll see why!) Noah takes on the task of delivering a package to Grace and her mother that no one else can know about. He drives through the night to get to Arizona where Grace is. In the hopes of simply dropping it off and fulfilling his mother's wish. He had no idea what he was going to find when he got there, or just how much help Grace needed. ( even if she wouldn't admit to it) Once these two reunite, it's all about finding out the truth. Digging up the past from Abe's horrible reputation to Jackie's involvement in everything. Along the way it's also about discovering that they need each other, and for more then just getting to the bottom of things they thought they once knew! It's an eye opening journey for all involved. A true page turner! K.A is amazing at providing twists and turns, and while it isn't a romance, there is an underlying element of it. Noah isn't suppose to be a book boyfriend, but he truly is swoon worthy! This book will keep you on the edge of your seat every page. My mouth actually dropped open a few times through out this book, especially the amazingly woven secret at the end. #Noahisswoonworthy #greattothelastpage ** I was provided with an ARC of this book by Atria in exchange for my honest review**

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is an amazing romantic suspense!!!!!!!!!!!! 4.5/5 stars K.A. Tucker is one of my favorite authors. So I was very excited to get to read her latest book. Keeping Her Safe is a standalone novel. The author describes the book as an intense suspense story with a genuine deep-rooted romance. And unlike any other book that she's written. I guess if I had to choose a genre to put this book in I would say romantic suspense. Romance is definitely featured in this book. Although to me the mystery/suspense aspect of the story is more prevalent. The main narrators are Noah (25) and Grace (20). There are also some POVs from the past: Noah's mom Jackie (Police Chief) and Grace's dad Abe (police officer). It was interesting to get some insight into the past. But I found it unusual that the reader was learning things from these chapters that the narrators did not know. A lot of the story takes place in Austin Texas. Noah lives in Austin. The Austin Police Department plays a very big part in this story. Grace lives in Arizona in a trailer park with her mom who is constantly on drugs. Her dad died 14 years ago. To be honest it took me a few chapters to really get into this book. When I started I could not figure out what the story was about. But by 15% the book started getting a lot better for me. The book is about uncovering the truth. Noah and Grace team up to try to discover the truth about what happened 14 years ago. Her father Abe was killed. But there is much more to the story. There are so many secrets and lies. It is difficult for Noah and Grace to know who to believe and trust. I really liked both Noah and Grace. Noah was polite and kind. Abe was his mentor. Grace had such a tough life. She was sassy and full of spunk. I really enjoyed reading about them trying to solve this mystery. And the dog, Cyclops was the funniest thing ever! There were lots of interesting characters including: Grace's mom Dina, Noah's Uncle Silas (the District Attorney), former Police Chief Canning, and FBI agent Klein. The mystery was really good. By halfway it was getting so interesting that I did not want to put the book down. I was hoping that the story would be full of twists and turns. And I was not disappointed. There were definitely a bunch of shocking discoveries in this book. And I really liked the story. I just wanted more from the romance. I loved the couple. I just wish that the romance aspect had been addressed earlier in the book (there is hardly any romance in the first half of the story). I am a big fan of the suspense/thriller genre. So I was thrilled to see so much suspense in this book. And even though I wanted more romance in the story, I was very invested in the romantic aspects of this book. Noah is going to be on a lot of Book Boyfriend lists. Overall the last half of the book was the strongest to me. And the end was really good. It took me a little bit to become invested in the story. But once I was I could not put this book down. Does this feel like a K.A. Tucker book? Not exactly. There is a bit less focus on romance. And more focus on the mystery to be solved. That said the romance was strong. But I wish that there had been more of it. But wow the ending was intense. What a captivating story! Read from the Book

Keep Her Safe PROLOGUE Corporal Jackie Marshall June 1997 “There’s gotta be a pound in each.” Abe nudges the ziplock bag of marijuana with the tip of his pen. The kitchen table is shrouded in these bags, along with bundles of cash. I’m going to take a wild guess and say there’s plenty more, hidden around this dive of an apartment. I peer over at the guy we just busted, handcuffed and lying on his stomach, under another officer’s watchful eye, waiting to be transported for booking. He’s a scrawny nineteen-year-old with a temper. “Don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t be beatin’ on my girlfriend if I had all these drugs in my house.” His neighbors heard glass smashing and him making threats of death, so they called 9-1-1. He gave us cause to kick in the door when he uttered a string of racial slurs and then spat in Abe’s face. That’s how we found the bloodied blonde girl and this. Now the paramedics are treating the gashes on her face, while we wait for Narcotics to swoop in. Abe smooths his ebony-skinned hand over his cheek. “What do you think this is worth, anyway?” “Depends how good it is. Ten grand? Maybe twenty?” He lets out a low whistle. “I’m in the wrong business.” “You and me both. We bounced our mortgage payment last month.” Blair told me we couldn’t afford that house. I ought to have listened to him. But I also hadn’t planned on getting pregnant when I did. Not that I regret having Noah. I just expected to have earned a few stripes before I was elbow-deep in diapers and formula. “Don’t worry, you’ll be making the big bucks soon enough, Sergeant Marshall,” Abe mocks with a dimpled grin. He’s been calling me that for months, ever since I passed my test and was put on the promotion list. “Just don’t go forgetting about us beat cops when you start pinning those stars to your collar.” “You’re ridiculous.” I roll my eyes at him. “Am I? You are one damn ambitious woman, Jackie, and my money’s on you over half the clowns around here, present company included.” He sighs. “My days won’t be the same, though.” “I’m gonna miss being your partner, Abe.” After seven years, there’s no one else I trust more in the APD—and in life—than Abe Wilkes. He lets out a derisive snort. “Don’t worry, you’ll see me plenty enough. Heck, Noah’ll probably be at my house more than yours.” “Dina’s managing alright, what with a baby of her own? Don’t want Noah to be a burden on her.” Abe waves off my concern. “Dina’ll steal that kid away from you if you’re not watching. She insisted.” I can’t be sure if it was Dina or Abe who offered to mind Noah while Blair and I work. I’ve never seen a grown man dote on a little boy as much as Abe dotes on mine. Even Blair doesn’t pay that much attention, and Noah’s his son. “That beautiful wife of yours is a blessing. I wish you’d have knocked her up and gotten married years ago. Would have saved me a ton on daycare bills.” Abe struggles to keep that booming chuckle of his at bay—it wouldn’t be appropriate given current surroundings. “I’d say we’re movin’ plenty fast, don’t you?” Pregnant three months into dating and married at City Hall the week after finding out? I’d say so. “Your mom come around yet?” A good Christian woman like Abe’s mother was less than pleased when she found out her twenty-eight-year-old son had knocked up an eighteen-year-old girl. An eighteen-year-old white girl. I’ve met Carmel Wilkes. I don’t believe she has an issue with Dina, per se; she’s more worried about other people taking issue with Dina and Abe together, and the problems that may arise. As progressive as Austin is, there’s still plenty of hate to go around when it comes to the color of a person’s skin. Abe shrugs. “Slowly but surely.” “I’ll bet that gorgeous little Gracie is helping.” It’s inevitable, the second anyone says his daughter’s name, that Abe’s face splits open with a wide grin. He’s about to say something—probably tell another story about how cute she is—when our radios crackle with voices. “The cavalry’s here.” I pat my stomach. “Good thing, too. I’m starving. Let’s get this lowlife booked and then get some food.” “Hey . . .” Abe lowers his voice to a whisper. “I wonder, how honest do you think these narc guys are?” “Honest enough. Why?” His chocolate-brown eyes roll over the bundles of cash. “Wouldn’t it be easy for one of those to go missing?” It’s a question you don’t pose, especially not while you’re in uniform and standing in front of a pile of drugs. “Pretty dang easy, I’ll bet.”
