James Baldwin (1841-1925) was an American editor and author. Gained the world popularity as one of the most prolific authors of school books for children at the end of the last century and the beginning of this. Became famous and widely published textbook editor and children's author in the subjects of legends, mythology, biography, and literary, among others. Once upon a time there was a wise and good king whose name was Alfred. But war came to his hands in face of fierce rude people of the Danes. The war lasted many years and unfortunately Alfred's army had to escape and the king fled along, in great haste, through the woods and swamps. Only after meeting a woodcutter and eating his wife's cakes he could gather a new army and beat the Danes in a great battle.
