Face your demons...or feed them.

Nikolai Lantsov has always had a gift for the impossible. No one knows what he endured in his country's bloody civil war-and he intends to keep it that way. Now, as enemies gather at his weakened borders, the young king must find a way to refill Ravka's coffers, forge new alliances, and stop a rising threat to the once-great Grisha Army.

Yet with every day a dark magic within him grows stronger, threatening to destroy all he has built. With the help of a young monk and a legendary Grisha Squaller, Nikolai will journey to the places in Ravka where the deepest magic survives to vanquish the terrible legacy inside him. He will risk everything to save his country and himself. But some secrets aren't meant to stay buried-and some wounds aren't meant to heal.

Enter the Grishaverse with this new novel from #1 New York Times-bestselling author Leigh Bardugo.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Mini review on GR! Mini review: DNF Trigger warning: Mention of death. Physical violence. I was really looking forward to reading this! I have read Six of crows and was particularly excited for Nina’s point of view. Unfortunately it wasn’t for me. I’ve come to realize this author isn’t for me. I didn’t like the plot direction (I skimmed the book). Or the ending. Still recommend. I’m sure others will enjoy it more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Review from This is the Story of My(Reading) Life Liked I loved this because obviously; three of my fave characters. But I was also not super into where some of the story went. Felt a little recycled. But I also get it. Yes I'm like this... Are Nikolai and Kaz long lost brother...? I feel like this is a question that has nothing to do with this book but what we should all be asking. (Unfortunately, there is zero Kaz in this book) That ending paragraph though. Queen.
