L.A. Candy is a deliciously entertaining novel about what it's like to come of age in Hollywood while starring in a reality TV show, written by a young woman who has experienced it all firsthand: Lauren Conrad.

Fashion designer and TV personality Lauren Conrad brings her insider knowledge of the highs and lows of life in the spotlight to this juicy New York Times bestselling series.

Los Angeles is all about the sweet life: hot clubs, cute guys, designer...everything. Nineteen-year-old Jane Roberts can't wait to start living it up. She may be in L.A. for an internship, but Jane plans to play as hard as she works, and has enlisted her BFF Scarlett to join in the fun.

When Jane and Scarlett are approached by a producer who wants them to be on his new series, a "reality version of Sex and the City," they can hardly believe their luck. Their own show? Yes, please!

Soon Jane is TV's hottest star. Fame brings more than she ever imagined possible for a girl from Santa Barbara—free designer clothes, the choicest tables at the most exclusive clubs, invites to Hollywood premieres—and she's lapping up the VIP treatment with her eclectic entourage of new pals. But those same friends who are always up for a wild night are also out for a piece of Jane's spotlight.

In a city filled with people chasing after their dreams, it's not long before Jane wakes up to the reality that everyone wants something from her, and nothing is what it seems to be.

Lauren Conrad is best known for starring in the MTV hit seriesThe Hills. She is the author of severalNew York Timesbestsellers, including theL.A. Candyseries as well asLauren Conrad StyleandLauren Conrad Beauty, her fashion and beauty guides. In 2009 she launched LC Lauren Conrad, exclusively for Kohl's, and the line has since expanded...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hard to put down at times I have read all of Lauren Conrad's novels thus far both the L.A. candy trilogy and The Fame Game trilogy. While the stories do consist of stories of people who became part of reality television they also have some very dark, emotional, fun aspects. I would suggest for someone to read both trilogies and go in with an open mind. They are classified as teens novels I believe but can be enjoyed by adults definitely. Any Hollywood celebrity fans I would say really look into the books.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy, Breezy Beach Read I brought this book on vacation with me to serve as an easy, breezy beach read. L.A. Candy follows the lives of Jane (girl-next-door) and Scarlett (sassy rule-breaker)- two best friends who have moved to Los Angeles to pursue an internship and university, respectively. They end up being cast on a hot new reality TV show along with Madison and Gaby. This is some of the most enjoyable Sugar Pop Fluff that I've read in a while. Bring on the sequel!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good The characters and story line in the novel sounds like it was more than likely based on actual events during the filming of The Hills. Kinda juicy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from As Expected! I bought this book because I really like The Hills and Lauren Conrad. This book was exactly what I expected. It was a light, easy read.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Surprisingly Intriguing! This isn't the type of book I'm usually into. I'll admit, I judged this book by the cover... and that's why I bought it. It gave off this cutesy, sweet vibe to it and with reading the first page, it was interesting enough to buy. Once I really got into it, I couldn't put the book down! I fell in love with the characters and their stories and that Jane acted relatable and that was awesome. Would definitely read this series again!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fun and flirty Similar story line to the Hills. Not as juicy
Date published: 2016-12-29
Rated 3 out of 5 by from If you're reading this for juicy behind the scenes, don't Read this book in case there was anything particularly revealing about The Hills, which was my mistake to begin with. There's nothing we don't know about it at this point and she isn't particularly generous with examples.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from fun! If you loved Lauren on the Hills you're going to love this. It follows a similar story line that the hills did.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from fun read! love the fact that its loosely based on LCs time on the hills

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nostalgic I remember reading this when it first came out and I just remember thinking, "This sounds exactly like The Hills." If, like me, you were a The Hills fanatic, you will surely appreciate this book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it! During the summer, Jane Roberts and Scarlett Harp, two best friends, come together in Los Angeles. Jane has been hired by the famous event planner, Fiona Chen, and Scarlett is starting her first semester at USC. One night, while they are in one of Los Angeles’ top clubs, they are spotted by Trevor Lord, a reality TV producer. He hires them for his next hit show called L.A. Candy. A few days later, the girls met their costars, Madison and Gaby, and start filming the show immediately. This is where their adventure, full of fame and action, starts. I really enjoyed reading this book, because I thought the story was very original and that each character was different. I would recommend it to teenagers, because it is easy to read and there is a lot of gossip in it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great! When I started reading it I have to be honest, I did not like it! I put it down about 5 chapters in. I decided to try it again the second time and I fell in love! I finished it in a couple of hours and I just loved it! It is a very funny book!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from If you want to waste some time My only reasoning why this book did so well because... well, it's Lauren Conrad.... Whoever loves the Hills or loves her will probably love this book. I picked it up because I was curious behind the world of reality TV and how it's arranged. I give her credit for letting me enter that world. Apart from knowing what goes on in a reality show, that's all there was to it. You're just reading about girls going to work, school and clubs.... Until a guy shows up in the story...and then another guy...and what do you know, you got drama. I wouldn't have minded it so much if it had a conclusion to it. I read a whole book, got nothing out of it (Except the glimpse of reality tv) and was left empty-handed at a resolution. So if your looking for reality TV in a book, a non-existent plot, a simple main character, be left empty-handed with a cliffhanger as an ending, this book is for you.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay book. This isnt the kind of book that I usually read, I'm not so interested in these kinds of books, but for what it was it was pretty good. Lauren Conrad could really put some of her own personal experience into these books, and I'm sure that helped with the concept and all. I'm still debating weather or not to buy the second one though! 3/5

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Book I Have Read I love reading books, and when I heard all the buzz I thought why not give it a shot. I regret wasting my money on this book. You can tell the book was written by someone with no writing talent because of all the apreivations that teenagers use (wtf, etc.). The ending was terrible, just terrible. And although a lot of people say how they loved this book, and they may, but I have had never heard of Lauren Conrand before I can honestly say this was just plain out not good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely Fabulous L.A. Candy was an absolutely spectacular book. It was interesting and Lauren Conrad was able to give the readers a sense for who the characters really were. These characters were easy to relate too. They were four normal girls, and they were chosen for a once in a life time chance to be on a reality show. This book managed to grab my complete attention in the first chapter. L.A Candy talks about real life scenarios with girls just living life it its fullest. There was never a dull moment in L.A. Candy. Lauren managed to keep the readers interested and sitting on the edge of their seat, in excitement for what was going to happen next. L.A. Candy is a book that would be more suitable for an older audience. There is mature topics discussed through out the book. L.A. Candy reminded me of the hit reality show The Hills. This book was a must read if you are a girl anywhere from 15+. This book wasn’t a hard read but it did have large words here and there but just about anyone could read it. Lauren shows her creative side in this books and it give you a glimpse of what she has been through in here own life. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a great read. This is a book you will not be able to put down. I cant wait to the second book to come out. Lauren did a great job writing this book and is a very talented writer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ammmaaazziing! This book was really good, I read it from start to finish in one day! If you like The Hills and you like Lauren Conrad, then you'll like her book! I Can't wait to read Sweet Little Lies. . .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pleasantly surprised! I picked up this book not expecting to be thrilled with it's contents. It was as great as many of the chick lit books I've read in the past. I enjoyed the characters, loved the storyline, and I am definitely looking forward to the next book! Great Job L.C!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great book! LA Candy follows Jane Roberts and Scarlett Harp as they make their move from Santa Barbara to the bright lights of Los Angeles, California. It follows them as they learn what it's like to live in a big city and we watch as they're thrown in the spotlight and treated as celebrities. What I really enjoyed about this story is the behind the scenes look we got into the whole reality t.v. world. I knew that it wasn't exactly real, that the TV Producers throw the characters on the shows into different situations and watch as the characters work through the situations on their own so it was fun to see how things are done because though L.A. Candy was based on The Hills, the characters were different and the storylines were different. All in all, i thought it was a really great book and i cant wait for the second one! "Sweet Little Lies" is to come out in Febuary!
