In the space of a single day, twenty year old Trish West purchases her first car, gets accepted into veterinary college, and finds her rock star father, Jim Gamble, a man who vanished into the streets before she was born and now clings to life in a Toronto intensive care unit.

Eager to establish a relationship with Mr. Gamble, Trish heads out from her Northern Ontario home that very day to stand at his bedside. But along the way, she crosses paths with a man who will upend her life and the lives of everyone she cares about.

Meet Bobcat, a savage serial killer christened The Dentist by the press, a deranged trophy hunter who sees Trish as the ultimate prize.

Last Call is a story of lost innocence, sociopathic obsession and moral redemption that is certain to haunt you long after you’ve read the last page.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nailbiter This latest book by Costello grabbed me after the first few pages and just wouldn't let me go. I experienced a strange mix of fear and yet uncontrollable anticipation and curiosity to go on page after page despite my apprehension. Costello though has a way to surprise with unexpected twists and at times shocking tableaus painted in such vivid detail that you need to stop and catch your breath and digest from time to time! Closest comparison would be Silence of the Lambs on steroids!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thrilling Page Turner with Heart This book is the ultimate combination of a thrilling page-turner and a story with heart. The father-daughter reunion that is central to this novel merges brilliantly with the tale of a nasty serial-killer known as "The Dentist." Bobcat is a uniquely twisted madman who might make Hannibal Lecter cringe a little. Costello attacks the story with as much compassion for Trish, her alcoholic father Jim and their mutual friend Dean as he provides for the tension, suspense and utter brutality that the villain brings to the tale. The reader wants to see a "happily-ever-after" for the ex-musician with a drug and drink problem who is trying to turn his life around, for the two young lovers looking like they might finally be getting back together. But Costello throws a deranged madman into the mix whose path of destruction messes it all up. In all, this is an "unputdownable" novel certain to make you keep checking over your shoulder, and a little more leery about those rest stops along the highway.
