Inspired by transcendentalism, Whitman's immortal collection includes some of the greatest poems of modern times, including his masterpiece "Song of Myself." Shattering standard conventions of symbolism and allegory, it stands as an unabashed celebration of body and nature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classic Written in a manner that was ahead of his time, leaning towards the spirituality of the middle-eastern writers, the verses are free flowing and urge the reader to let oneself go and submit entirely to each word as written. Some of my favourite poems are in this book and "Song of Myself" leads the way. No getting around the fact that it is so long, and seems to go. on. for. forever. but there are portions of stanzas that I love and bring meaning to life every time that I read them. "look no further than under your boot soles....." love.
