More than 100 examples of household stories, legends of witchcraft, ghosts, fetches, and Ossianic legends. Patrick Kennedy (1801-1873) was born in County Wexford and moved to Dublin in 1823; where he owned a bookshop and wrote literary and historical anecdotes as well as regular contributions to Dublin University Magazine. Originally published in 1866, this is a reprint of the 1891 edition. The author stated that the greater part of the stories and legends are "given as they were received from the storytellers with whom our youth was familiar. ... No story in the present collection is copied either in substance or from any writer of the present or past generation."
