Rated 5 out of 5 by from I want more!!! This recipe book is a life-saver! I just started back to work from a mat. leave and was having a very hard time making dinner. This book has given a lot of variety and saved us money!! I highly recommend this book to everyone. Does anyone know if there has been another recipe book from Sandi?!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A lot of chicken breast Well, the grocery plans were a great help but I noticed that almost every other meal used skinless, boneless chicken breast. This got redundant after the first week and also became very expensive. This book is not very economically minded - soley speed oriented. Also, some of the meals were very high in fat. I opted to try to make them lighter. Couldn't we have a few vegitarian meals in there too?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing book for students DELICIOUS! This is by far the best book I have found for busy university students looking for great meals. It provides nutrition, variety and simplicity not only for busy families but also busy students! I have even taught my brother and boyfriend to cook using this book! I shall never go hungry again! Spiral binding was nice when using the book in the kitchen - a little touch that made all the difference.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This book is great!!! I couldn't cook a thing until I got this book - my job in the kitchen was to boil water. Now that I have this book I can actually good some really good meals. - My boyfriend can't believe it - I can actually cook! The recipes are so easy & you can find everything in a regular grocery store. I recommend this book to anyone who can't cook (i.e. don't know what temperature to cook chicken at) and/or who needs easy food ideas for supper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This book really works I just wanted to tell you all how great I think your book is. So far my husband and I have only tried 3 recipes, they were the Beef Enchilada, Sweet & Tangy Chicken and Chicken Pot Pie and we love them all. We were shocked at how great all three meals tasted and how quickly you can prepare a great meal. We bought your book because a friend of ours told us to try it and now we are telling family, co-workers and friends to try this book.

I have now made several of the meals from it and the directions are very easy to follow. The food is delicious too. My Husband, the kids and I have enjoyed every meal out of it so far and we have some new favorites. We don't have to play the 'What's for dinner tonight game?' anymore. Thank you Sandi!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Busy families read on... This cookbook is just perfect for getting a kid friendly - family meal on the table night after night with little thought on your part. Not only is the prep time for most meals cut in half so is the shopping time and there is virtually no meal planning, amazing how many more hours can be found in a week when you don't have to think about all that. We will still have our favorite recipes some times but when you know you have a busy week ahead, this book is the answer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worlds Best Cook Book This is the best cookbook in the world for anyone with any kind of life. I have 2 kids. Between hockey games, band practice, guitar lessons, etc. etc. Who has time to cook. Now I do. I was the world’s best instant cook. I could open a box and slide it into the microwave like nobody. Now I actually cook. The very best thing about this book is the grocery list. I go shopping on Sunday with one of the 12 weekly shopping lists and when I get home from work I only have to look at the recipes for that week and I know which ever one I chose I have all the ingredients for. No more trying to come up with meals the kids will eat then running out of ingredients half way through. My husband and kids even love this cookbook. Not only do they think the recipes are delicious they are easy enough for the kids to cook. I love this book so much I'm buying one for each of my friends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT COOKBOOK!!! This cookbook is really great! So far, I have done the first 2 of 12 weeks of recipes and for at least four of the meals my 5 year old has said "Great dinner, Mom". Prior to getting this book we heard A LOT of "Yucks" at the dinner table. Even my 2 year old has liked most of the meals. The concept of having a grocery list and planned weeks really does make preparing dinner so much easier and more enjoyable. I hope that another book is in the making and that it may have a few more meatless meals. Thanks for the great book!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What did I do without it? This cookbook is more than just recipes - it's an attitude and a lifestyle! The recipes are great, you can use the shopping lists provided, and each meal comes with a full nutritional complement of food. Plus, the timetable that they give makes it so simple that ANYONE can have supper ready in a reasonable space of time. Everyone who has a life needs this cookbook!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life's on Fire Cooking for the Rushed This book has been a lifesaver for our family. I now make nutritious, balanced, low fat meals every night of the week. It even tells me what utensils to take out before I begin. I take the book with me to the grocery store and use the itemized list to get every ingredient I will need to cook for the entire week. And every meal so far has earned great reviews from my family and friends. A novice could use this with eyes closed. A must have for every kitchen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life's on Fire a Lifesaver An adamant non-cooker, I was given this book as a gift. I was quite skeptical, as I have a number of cookbooks given to me by well-meaning friends collecting dust in a cupboard. I knew this book was different the first time I flipped it open to see the color coded recipes (based on time and prep work required). These color codes simplify the week as it is, but add to that the calorie counter, weekly shopping lists and quick tips, and you have a complete cooking manual! I have learned the ever elusive skill of spicing foods (I had never even heard of marjoram before), and the shortcuts make cooking a cinch. This book is truly a lifesaver for anyone who thinks they can't prepare more than one dish at a time! I have gone from eating out most nights to cooking 2-3 times a week. I would strongly recommend this book for anyone who needs a bit more time and less stress in their life! (Incidently, the meals are delicious!)

No more worries about the famous... what I am going to cook tonight ? It is all there, a real life saver !!! Many thanks to Sandi !

It so nice to come home and not have to figure out what to make for's all in front of you. The recipes are easy, fast, straight forward and taste great. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cooking for the Rushed! My husband and I don't get home until 6:30 and with a young family...dinner time can be really hectic. By the time we figure out what we want to eat, and what we have in the house, we're too tired, and we often end up ordering in. We've tried other books before, but this cook book is truly amazing. It lists five quick, nutritious meals that use basic ingredients. I love that it gives suggestions for the entire meal (main course, vegetables) ...less thinking time means more cooking time in our house! We decided that we would start with recipe one and just keep them a try. The first recipe was easy to make (we even knew what all the ingredients WERE!) and delicious. We were pleasantly surprised that the rest of the recipes were as good as the first recipe! We're hooked! As we become faster at each recipe, we modify it to suit our family! It's so easy! And the best part....there is a pull out shopping list that lists all of the ingredients needed for the week's recipes. This book is a definite "must have" for families in a rush!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cooking for the rushed This is the best cook book I have every used. The recipes are simple and the indgredients tend to be things you have on hand or will use often. I love the whole idea of the menu planning for the week. After cooking meals for 20 plus years of marriage it's easy to run out of ideas on what to make. My family has loved everything I have cooked so far from this book. The shopping list is a great idea and very helpful. I would, and have recommended this book to all my friends and family.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Teen's can cook Having recently received this book as a gift, we decided to try a few recipes and guess what? The girls can cook. This book is idiot proof. the recipes are so easy even my daughter could make dinner. Of the three recipes we tried every single one turned out wonderful. We've been telling our friends about it and everyone who's tried it has had rave reviews. Many thanks to the authors for this great time and family saver.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "Gloucester's On Fire" My wife took a contract job for about 12 weeks in January, so my number 1 Christmas present request was a cooking book, as I volunteered to do the cooking while she worked. I was estatic on December 25 to open up my present "Life's On Fire Cooking For The Rushed". I hadn't worked in a kitchen before, but for 12 weeks I cooked every receipt in the book except for a few. I work for the City Of Gloucester (near Ottawa) Corporate Services Department. All the girls in the office would ask me what I was cooking that evening, because they'd see me studying the book on my coffee breaks. It was a great way to meet people in the office. My wife finished her contract job, so she's back in the kitchen. The book was exceptionally easy to follow and my wife felt like a Queen. Often, when we have dinner guests, I volunteer to cook something special from the book. I've even been getting special requests like "chicken pot pie" and "spinach lasagna". It was great fun using the book, some of the girls in the office have gone out to purchase their own "Life's On Fire"

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW!!! Thanks Sandi!!! WHAT AN AWESOME BOOK!! These recipes are great. Grocery bill down....nutrition, variety and ease up. My family gives every recipe a rating of either 9 or 10 out of ten. The time it takes to prepare and cook each of the meals is EXACTLY what it says it will be. The sauces for everything are great. Sandi has helpful tips to make preparing FAST during your busy week schedule. She even tells you the technique to prepare a beef roast for 1 hour cooking.... DURING THE WEEK. Now THAT's cooking. The pull out shopping lists at the back are great, and did I mention....cleanup's a snap!! The way she has written this book is unlike any other cookbook I have seen. Congratulations on a great book and THANK YOU for making my life easier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from cooking for the rushed Not just a cookbook - but entire meals and in a minimum of time. Finally an answer to cooking on a tight schedule during the week. Each week has its own grocery list. Not only are the recipes very tasty, they're easy to prepare and come complete with side dishes as well. I love this book - it has really helped to make cooking during the week simple and delicious.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I AM ON FIRE!!!!! Wow, oh wow, what can I say? My dinner used to be on fire...literally burned all the time because I was rushing. Now I am not stressed and I am actually excited and looking forward to cooking dinner, with my apron on of course! My children are actually eating the meals from this fantastic cookbook along with my husband. We cannot believe how this book has transformed all of us during the dinner hour to non-whining non-grumpy human beings! Dinner is always ready, and I am now waiting for everyone to sit down at the table, instead of hearing the usual whining..."when is dinner ready"?. My husband feels Sandi will be a millionaire, since he cannot believe how many recipes out of ONE cookbook can really be so fabulous. Thank you Sandi! We wish you and your family continued success!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rush Out to Buy "Rushed" I'm a veteran of 'fast-and-easy-cookbooks' and I've never found one that comes close to being as fast and easy as this one. As well, all the recipes use normal ingredients to produce normal dishes. My family will only eat good-tasting, recognizable food, and this cookbook has only one quasi-weird recipe involving shrimp. My husband is an ahtlete, and I was trained as a dietician, so we both like to eat low-fat, healthy meals. This cookbook also meets those requirements. And, best of all, the cookbook provides grocery lists. Everything you need to buy for all five weekday meals for 12 weeks is itemized. It's virtually impossible to go wrong. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Food, Fast I am just finishing the last chapter of this wonderful cookbook and have been told I have a year to wait for a sequel. Unless you try it, you may never understand how long this year will be for me. Our whole family loves it, but not as much as me; the cook and grocery shopper. If you have ever stared hopelessly into your fridge or freezer trying to decide what to make for dinner, then you need this book. It has the answer, week after week. A MUST HAVE FOR EVERY BUSY HOUSEHOLD.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Come On Over For Dinner! My girlfriend had my Husband and I over for a home-cooked meal last week. She tried to cook for us a few years ago, poor thing - what a disaster! Well, we were a little hesitant and wondered how we would swallow the meal this time without being too obvious, we would hate to hurt her feelings!!! SURPRISE - she had found your incredible cookbook and WOWED us both. When we arrived the house smelled amazing and my stomach started growling. I even cautiously allowed myself to imagine what restaurant she had ordered-in from. I couldn't believe that she had cooked the meal herself until she showed me the recipe. I can definately say that your book works miracles. A great meal shared with great friends is a wonderful memory indeed - and Sandi (& Ron) we have you to thank for that!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My apron is off to Sandi!!! Sandi's cookbook has changed our lives. FINALLY - I have something I feel so moved by that I had to write to tell everyone how amazing it is. It has simplified our grocery shopping, significantly reduced our shopping costs, filled our lives with great tasting, easy to prepare meals (that are good for you), and...... I now LOVE cooking. I thank you, my Husband thanks you, and all the friends & family we've finally had over for a home cooked meal thank you! Now - when will we see volume #2? THANK YOU FOR THIS AMAZING COOK BOOK!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Book This book has changed our eating lives. There is only my husband and I but all we were living on was casseroles because they were quick and didn't take much thought. Now we have a new dish every other night and leftovers for lunch the next day. We haven't eaten anything we didn't love. I love the grocery shopping list and have discovered things in my grocery store that I didn't know existed. I gave 4 of these cookbooks to family members for Christmas gifts and they have now bought them for all their friends.
Date published: 2000-04-07
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm in Cookbook Heaven I love this cookbook. It has made my otherwise mundane and nearly edible attempts at cooking a real pleasure to make and very tasty too! My husband actually makes favourable comments on supper and sometimes complains that the evening meal is ready before he is ready to sit down and eat! Gone are the days of hearing 'when is supper ready'. With the express methods in this book supper is mere minutes away. This book is so organized (another trait I lack) and makes preparing a meal simple and fun.
Date published: 2000-03-22
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Try it, you'll love it! This book is simply sensational!!! I have 3 children and I babysit 5 others all under the age of 4 and this method has really simplified our lunch hours. It is easy to use, eliminates many trips to the grocery store and the famous question "What's for lunch?" is always answered, not to mention that the food is incredibly delicious! I have adapted the recipes for younger children by spicing a little bit less and by cutting the meat into bite size pieces before cooking! This book is a must for all families!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Round Two We just finished the last recipe in the book and are so impressed! I originally bought the book to support local talent, but was 'wowed' by the end of the first week. Our family is eating much more healthily and it all tastes great! My teenage son's friend even went home telling his family about the cool food he has at our house. I would have never thought to try some of the combinations in the book, but they're terrific!! It took us 5 months to get through the book because we already had favorites we just had to make again! The grocery lists are fabulous, and the entire concept is so low stress - it's really been a life-saver !!! Thanks Sandy (& Ron)! Tomorrow we start round two!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cooking for the Rushed Thought I'd start the new year off with organizing our menu planning and grocery buying. We are a family of 4 with 2 "growing" teenage boys. Sandi's cook book jump off the shelf at me. It is easy to follow, it has planned menus, grocery shopping lists for each week, and "good for you" foods. We have been using "Cooking for the Rushed" for the last month. The boys are eating things I never would have thought they would. We are all eating healthier and our grocery bill has almost been cut in half. I have even gone one step futher and posted our weekly menu on the fridge which everyone checks each morning. The recipes are so fast and easy to follow that everyone in the household can make them. My family had me email Sandi to see if she had any dessert and lunch ideas. I am looking forward to her next cook book. Thanks for being real, Sandi!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I feel healthier already . . . My girlfriend and I are both students, and our schedules are very hectic. Although both of us are capable of cooking, we find that we are at a loss when it comes to deciding just *what* to make for dinner. Before we started using this book, we settled for McDonald's (or worse!) nearly every night of the week. Now, we eat a nutritious home-cooked meal. "Cooking for the Rushed" takes all the thinking out of cooking: it tells you what to buy at the beginning of the week, and what you're going to eat each day. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yum Yum!! This book has revolutionized our mealtimes. The book is full of excellent recipes and easy to follow and cook from. Lots of recipes to follow so you'll not get bored of this book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Salvation! I just want to let everyone know how this book has helped us in our lives. In my family there are only four people. My son, who plays hockey. My husband who plays hockey and also coaches two other hockey teams (in the summer he coaches lacrosse). My daughter who does gymnastics. And myself, who cooks, taxis, helps with homework, and all that other "mom" stuff. We now eat healthy, well balanaced meals that I actually have time to prepare with time left over to do all the other stuff!! My kids have liked most of the recipes, and if they don't like the whole thing there is usually something in the meal they like. Plus, there is always enough leftovers for lunch the next day for my husband! I highly recommend this one, even if your life isn't rushed, it's an easy way to eat right!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Cookbook My family of 6 including 4 young adult/teenagers just love the meals in this cookbook. The pictures are great. The fussy eaters in the family look at the pictures and advise me of which ones they will eat before I cook them. We can eat well without having to spend a lot of time planning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life's On Fire Being a stay at home dad of a 10 month old little boy, my days are pretty structured, and rather busy. My wife bought me this cookbook for my birthday, so she'd come home to cooked meals all the time. (I'll say now, I am a good cook, book or no book) She bought me this particular book because of it's organization. It has 12 weeks of meals, all different, and balanced so you get the right amount of fat in your week. But the key to the book is it's pullout shopping list in the back. Say you want to cook week 1, go to the back, look up week 1's shopping list. Mark off what you have, go buy the rest. That's it! Simple, and you don't have to go shopping every day. Ingenious idea! So me and my wife fully reccomend this book to anyone who works lots, has kids, or is just plain old single. The recipes are great, easy to do, and you always have a meal in under an hour, from prep. time to completion. An excellent purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely Awesome!! This is an incredible book, and I am so glad I bought it. I can buy everything I need at one store, I can understand all the directions and ingredients. I love the hassle free grocery lists. I can't beleive how easy it is to just cook now. My six year old even enjoys helping to cook now. Thank you Sandi so much for this book and I can't wait for book number two.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Food For Life After reading a short newspaper article about "Life's on Fire" that gave a recipe and some hints about the book we were intruiged to the point that we kept checking the local Chapters untill they got it in stock. Then out to the store to fully check it out. Isn't Chapters great, good books, coffee, and a place to relax and read. After two hours of scanning we were pretty well convinced that it was a well written book, with easy to read directions, using common food items and pictures that are of the real food. With the unique way of writing out directions, recipes are easy to follow. Then we took it home and started to reread and see what the twelve weeks were all about. We were a little uneasy about buying food for a week so we went through the book and picked out some recipes that we had supplies for, well we were floored at the results, looked good, tasted even better. Next we tried a week and that was fantastic, now we have started from week one and are enjoying every day. We have even gone to it for weekend meals. To sum up, this is a "MUST HAVE,MUST USE" book.Thank You Sandi & Ron Rick & Sue

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eating for the rushed! We (my wife and 3 year old son) have been using this book for approx 2 months and we have found it to be a God send. Not only does this book lay out your shopping list by the week it also depicts almost every dish so you know what it should look like.On top of all that the recipes are really, really good. This is coming from a family that no. 1 is really finicky and no. 2 always looking for new ideas. If I could give any advice whatsoever on this book it would be, first off get off your butt and go get one and secondly try everything at least once. I guarantee you that you will (like we did) broaden your eating horizons and enjoy cooking dinners again. It takes all the guess work out of cooking and makes it exciting to sit down to something new everyday. Go out and get one TODAY!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life's on Fire This is THE book to fill the gap in what's been missing in the world of cookbooks! This book is so complete, and yet so easy to use, that it was a complete surprise and delight. The recipes are simple, delicious and cost-effective. A common theme is the ingredients in many of the recipes (nothing weird or whacky either). Love the layout; the menu plans; the grocery list; the spiral bound cover for easy use; the many, many easy chicken recipes. I highly recommend this book for newly weds, for single parents, for large families, or simply for those who love to cook (and eat!). This cookbook is for REAL people!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Cookbook Ever! "Life's On Fire: Cooking for the Rushed" is the best cookbook I have come across in years. The recipes are so delicious that even my picky eater (my 8 year-old son) loves the recipes. The recipes are easy to follow, quick to make, delicious, nutritious, AND don't require exotic ingredients! This book is perfect for those hectic weekday suppers. It takes care of the dreaded "What's for Supper?" question. The shopping lists at the back of the book make it so much easier too. (A friend suggested that I tear-out the shopping list pages and laminate them to use a dry-erase pen on them. What a wonderful idea! -- Thanks Kim) All the recipes (full meals) can be prepared and on the table in 30 minutes or less OR they can be prepared in 20 minutes or less and then set in the oven for approximately an hour so that you can scoot out to pick up/drop off the kids (or sit and relax until supper is ready). I love this book ! Sandi Richard, you are WONDERFUL. Thank you so much for such a great cookbook.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Shouldn't have been released Anyone who likes this book, hasn't looked around much. There are many, many other great cookbooks outhere. This isn't one of them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from In a word Terrible! In a word, it "sucks". I would strongly disrecommend this book to anyone who enjoys good food. The recipes are mundane and terrible, though fast. Still if your wise you'll try a peanut butter sandwich before anything in this book. As a mother I strongly suggest looking at some of the other fine titles in this genera and leaving this one in the trash heap, where it belongs.
