From the Publisher
Documenting thirty years of Linda McCartney's life, the photographs collected in Light from Within are witty, lyrical, & warmly personal. The images included range widely as befitted her own wide range of interests & passions. There are portraits from her years as the Fillmore East photographer & participant in the 1960s scene in New York & London: Janis Joplin, Pete Townsend, & Sam Shepard are featured, as well as more recent portraits of personalities like Jim Jarmusch & Allen Ginsberg. There are intimate glimpses of her family & friends, & photos which display her deep affection for animals. She has included landscapes, some quietly lovely, some heavy with irony, as well as photographs from every era of her life that seize the passing moment, & convey a spare beauty as well as Linda's unique brand of surrealism. The last book project Linda completed before her death, this is a collection that is intuitive, poetic, & resonant with meaning; as Paul McCartney writes in his foreword, "the Light from Within shines out of every image.
