Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account Of Operation Redwing And The Lost Heroes Of Seal Team 10 is rated 4.77272727272727 out of 5 by 22.
Four US Navy SEALS departed one clear night in early July, 2005 for the mountainous Afghanistan-Pakistan border for a reconnaissance mission. Their task was to document the activity of an al Qaeda leader rumored to be very close to Bin Laden with a small army in a Taliban stronghold. Five days later, only one of those Navy SEALS made it out alive.

This is the story of the only survivor of Operation Redwing, SEAL fire team leader Marcus Luttrell, and the extraordinary firefight that led to the largest loss of life in American Navy SEAL history. His squadmates fought valiantly beside him until he was the only one left alive, blasted by an RPG into a place where his pursuers could not find him. Over the next four days, terribly injured and presumed dead, Luttrell crawled for miles through the mountains and was taken in by sympathetic villagers who risked their lives to keep him safe from surrounding Taliban warriors.

A born and raised Texan, Marcus Luttrell takes us from the rigors of SEAL training, where he and his fellow SEALs discovered what it took to join the most elite of the American special forces, to a fight in the desolate hills of Afghanistan for which they never could have been prepared. His account of his squadmates' heroism and mutual support renders an experience that is both heartrending and life-affirming. In this rich chronicle of courage and sacrifice, honor and patriotism, Marcus Luttrell delivers a powerful narrative of modern war.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Act of Bravery This is an extraordinary book everyone should read before they speak out about military brutality. I loved Evey minutes I spent reading this book, I now know what being a US NAVY SEAL means, these are brave men trained to go into combat, face evilness and enemies who doesn't think twice about killing or torturing them and doesn't have a clue about those ridiculous ROE we impose on our soldiers. We send them to war, so we can continue to live freely, with their Hans tied behind their back. You want to know more, read this, story, it'll break your heart.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from When it sticks to the point, it hits bullseye A moving recount of the mission in Afghanistan that claimed lives of group of Navy SEALs. Perfectly captures the camaraderie and bravery of these soldiers, as well as bravery and honor of the villagers who decided to give Marcus, the titular Lone Survivor, sanctuary despite Taliban attacks and pressure to hand him over. better than a very good movie that was still rather thin in some aspects that book covers in grater detail. I docked it a point for unnecessary po;liticla propaganda. As a Candian, I really don't care about which US political partty I should vote for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "Lone Survivor" The selfless sacrifices made and the heroic honor exemplified by these men are provided for each and every one of us, as Americans. It should most surely and sadly shame those who politically play out their own weak and selfish failings on the currently corrupt and morally bankrupt battlefields of government in Washington, D.C..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lone survivor I believe that this book should be required reading in all US American history classes. I have read many books similar to this one, but none of them compare to Marcus Luttrell's story of loss, endurance, loyalty, and courage. Lone Survivor is a page-turner, a tear-jerker and an invigorating rioter all coalesced into a profoundly thought-provoking and galvanizing true life story.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lone survivor LOVED this book! Only complaint was that I did not get enough sleep! I could not put it down at night. I would often find myself still reading into the wee hours of the morning, choosing to give up sleep just to ready "a few more pages". A must for any Kobo owner.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lone survivor This was an amazing story, you could feel how the Navy Seals felt stranded and yet bonded together even though they were out numbered. The news does not do justice to these brave men.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lone survivor Such an incredibly emotional rollercoaster of a book... gives you such insight into what it takes to become a Navy Seal and the actuality of being a member of a Seal team and what you would do for your team. Marcus is such an inspiration and I just want to applaud him for his bravery and to his fallen teammates may God Bless them! An awe-inspiring book...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lone Survivor: Reality of a SEAL Of all the SEAL books and movies I have encountered, Lone Survivor puts the SEAL Brotherhood at the forefront, like no other. You cannot pen a SEAL story without action, and there is plenty of that here. But, there is more to a SEAL's life than espionage, assassination, reconnaissance and mission training. The Brotherhood is what motivates you, beyond God, Country and Team. Marcus has made this abundantly clear, and we are all thankful that Mr. Luttrell was encouraged to share his experience with others. The motto, "My best day was yesterday" is clear in this case. Thank you, Marcus, and all our SEAL brothers.

Luttrell was the only survivor of the SEAL team.
