The #1 national bestseller-now in paperback!

Can a company be cool, socially responsible and still make money?

Welcome to the Looptail. This is the extraordinary true story of Bruce Poon Tip and how he honed his entrepreneurial instincts to create G Adventures, the world's most successful adventure travel company. Based in Canada, G Adventures operates in more than 100 countries, on all seven continents, and serves more than 100,000 customers every year. In this unique first-person account, Poon Tip reveals his unusual management secrets that allowed him to keep growing his company, his employees fully engaged and energized, and his customers extremely happy.

It's all pretty amazing for a guy who started the company in 1990 by maxing out a few of his credit cards to finance the start-up. Poon Tip has worked tirelessly to ensure that his company generates good karma for everyone; that is, that "giving back" in life and in business is all about the cycle of the Looptail. Poon Tip has created an entirely new and refreshing approach to management. For example, there is no traditional CEO at G Adventures-instead, every employee is a CEO, empowered to make instantaneous decisions to help serve clients on the spot. But while there's no CEO, there is a company Mayor who takes the daily pulse of corporate morale. There's no HR department, but there is a Talent Agency and company Culture Club.

This is a singularly stunning story of why community, culture and karma matter in business, and how one man's desire to do the right thing and generate profits can be blended into a win-win for all involved.

After returning from a backpacking tour of Asia in 1990, BRUCE POON TIP was driven to share his passion and vision for authentic an environmentally sustainable travel. With nothing more than his own personal credit cards, he created G Adventures. What began as a one-man show has grown to become the world’s largest adventure travel comp...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Keep reading I didn't think I would like this book. Thought about taking it back, but once I got into it, I wanted to know more about where his story went. I had never even heard of G adventures before, which is crazy considering what you find out about the author and the business he started from the ground up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inspiring, for life and for business I'm 27 and haven't read a book (willingly) for as long as I can remember. Until now, I have only read books as assigned through school. This book opened my mind to the positive benefits of reading and inspired me in daily life. Bruce is insightful and successful, but not arrogant. If travel is a passion of yours, this is a must read, especially if you understand business. If you do not understand business, there are life lessons in each chapter that can inspire you to seek out the best for yourself. Also, G Adventures' customer service standards are top-notch, which will have you questioning many services you pay for, especially if they are not up to par.

Editorial Reviews

""Looptail is for anyone who believes that business not only can but must be centred on the culture of meaning. All of the holy grails are here -- branding, employee engagement, leadership -- but the most important message of Looptail is surely that happiness and fulfillment can also be the path to success."" —Amanda Lang, author of The Power of Why“I’ve never bribed my way out of a Burmese prison, nor have I climbed anything higher than a few flights of stairs, but Bruce has the courage to not only brave these, but also lead a company with the candour and character demanded from our 21st-business leaders. Executives, take note: The Internet age will not be forgiving to companies that fail to walk the talk of being a socially responsible, high-quality business.” —Alexis Ohanian, start-up guy: Reddit and Hipmunk“Looptail is a great story and a shining example of why passion, purpose, and maintaining a sense of social responsibility are key elements in the success of any business. It gives readers an insightful glimpse into Bruce’s world and philosophy through his adventures in business and around the world.” —Tony Hsieh, New York Times–bestselling author of Delivering Happiness and CEO of Zappos.com, Inc.“Bruce Poon Tip has created an awesome company that is changing the world. As both a fan and a customer, I loved peeking behind the curtain to see all the greasy inner gears whirl and clink with beauty. Looptail is not only an incredible story, but also serves as a how-to guide for creating happiness in the workplace!” —Neil Pasricha, New York Times–bestselling author of The Book of Awesome“In Looptail, Bruce Poon Tip shares an entertaining and engaging account of his entrepreneurial success story of how he built his company from the ground up, and how elevating customer and employee engagement to a higher purpose can also be great for business.” —Marc Benioff, cofounder and CEO, Salesforce.com
