Snared and murdered by a vile, arcane horror, Chet quickly learns that pain and death are not unique to the living. Now the lives and very souls of his wife and unborn child are at stake. To save them, he must journey into the bowels of purgatory in search of a sacred key promised to restore the natural order of life and death. Alone, confused, and damned, Chet steels himself against the unfathomable terrors awaiting him as he descends into death’s stygian blackness.

With Lost Gods, Brom’s gritty and visceral prose takes us on a haunting, harrowing journey into the depths of the underworld. Thrust into a realm of madness and chaos, where ancient gods and demons battle over the dead, and where cabals of souls conspire to overthrow their masters, Chet plays a dangerous game, risking eternal damnation to save his family.

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Majestic Monstrosity of Madness and Chaos... This novel is filled with darkness, fantasy, mythology, and psychological horror. Which should come as no surprise, for a Brom novel. Lost Gods coursed through me relentlessly. Captivating me immediately and keeping my attention all the way to the end. Elated, sentimentalizing, and leaving me with feelings of outright admiration for the characters. Characters, who have stubbornly maintained their tenacity and optimism once again, like so many of Brom's characters do. "See them, Chet. See them true. And Lamia as well. Know them for what they are...profane and ungodly creatures all. It was my charge to rid this land of them...but, as you can see, I have...failed." In failure there is still ~ optimism ~ "because a chance, no matter how slim, is still better than no chance." Brom writes with such imaginative and brilliant authority. His ominous description of purgatory sent a chill up my spin, impossibly emanating. I found myself gripping my fingers into the sides of the novel with interminable urgency with every twist rooting for Chet on his remarkable journey. Unrelenting... beautiful and dreadful in equal measures. The way Brom weaves it all together, creating such a rich and exciting mythological world, is just... impactful. and that ending...virtuosity enthralled... A majestic monstrosity of madness and chaos... "Trying to find logic in a world with none... chaos is the only truth..." This is a Must...Read...
