Love in the Afternoon continues the Hallaways series by Victorian romance author Lisa Kleypas.

As a lover of animals and nature, Beatrix Hathaway has always been more comfortable outdoors than in the ballroom. Even though she participated in the London season in the past, the classic beauty and free-spirited Beatrix has never been swept away or seriously courted.and she has resigned herself to the fate of never finding love. Has the time come for the most unconventional of the Hathaway sisters to settle for an ordinary man-just to avoid spinsterhood?

Captain Christopher Phelan is a handsome, daring soldier who plans to marry Beatrix's friend, the vivacious flirt Prudence Mercer, when he returns from fighting abroad. But, as he explains in his letters to Pru, life on the battlefield has darkened his soul-and it's becoming clear that Christopher won't come back as the same man. When Beatrix learns of Pru's disappointment, she decides to help by concocting Pru's letters to Christopher for her. Soon the correspondence between Beatrix and Christopher develops into something fulfilling and deep.and when Christopher comes home, he's determined to claim the woman he loves. What began as Beatrix's innocent deception has resulted in the agony of unfulfilled love-and a passion that can't be denied.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A strong conclusion to a great series! A warm, smart finish to end the series on a high note. The characters work perfectly together, quirks and all.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Superb Ending for a Wonderful Series This was a perfect ending for the last book in The Hathaways Series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best for last The series started off a little slow compared to the Wallflowers series, but things picked up pace with every book and the last two books with Leo and Bea as the main focus, were in my opinion, the best of the series. Bea's sweet nature was perfect for Christopher, for the man that returned from the war, not the man that left for it. I love how her pets came in for cameos along with the other Hathway siblings and their respective SO. Definitely a series I recommend!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A must read for me! Lisa Kleypas has yet to fail to entertain me with her writting. I enjoy her works as much as i would enjoy a glass of iced lemon tea on a summer afternoon. It is refreshing and a touching story, which i am sure that many will enjoy. Shame, that the Hathaways story will have to end here.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Ending to the Hathaway Family Series I love Beatrix and thought she was wonderful. I loved the closer look we got at her character and thought she was terrific. Captain Phelan is a great character and I loved the romance between the two. The letters between them at the beginning were a great lead into the story. I loved that we got to see the rest of the Hathaway and the great banter that happends between them all. I felt a little disappointed that the end happened without any major climax - what did happen was solved quick and easy without any real build up. But even with that said I loved the story and I am sad to have read the last Hathaway story. I guess I'll have to read them again!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A disappointment I have been anxiously awaiting this book but ended up being disappointed. I am a huge fan of Lisa Kleypas' and have read all of her books. Love in the Afternoon and Married by Morning are her weakest books to date. The Hathaway Series started out with a bang and ended with a whimper...
