Rated 5 out of 5 by from Oh the waterworks... I am a 20 year old university student and I still cry every time I read this book, takes me right back to being a little kid.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Makes me cry almost every time I would say this book is more for parents than children
Date published: 2017-09-07
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not My Favourite from Munsch I don't understand the reviews that call this book creepy. It's over the top in showing the love between a mother/son, but children's books aren't meant to be totally realistic, it's meant to show the message in a way they can understand. This is a good book and I love Robert Munsch, but even as a child when it came out, this book made me very sad and was not a favourite. Though I understand the appeal I would not buy this book for my own child.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes Me Cry Every Time I grew up having my mother read this to me, so I've had a soft spot for it ever since the age of 4. Such a simple story line, but truly a most beautiful one. I would recommend this to anyone who has children, or to any children looking to buy their parent/guardian a heartfelt gift.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Beautiful story that stuck with me from when I first heard it in Kindergarten to now. Yeah some of it is a little absurb, but kid's minds are absurd.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Endearing This is such an endearing book with so much sentiment about the long lasting love of a child by their parent, and in turn the child learning unconditional love for their own child. It is beautiful and heart wrenching. #plumreview

Date published: 2017-06-22
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Creepy Sure it's a Robert Munsch book but it's beyond weird. It made me uncomfortable. My mom continues to buy this for others who are having kids because 'it's a classic' but every time she does, I cringe and try to balance things out by buying better kids books...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An extraordinary affirmation of one's love for their child! I have yet to make it through this book with my children without tearing up. How can the love this mother feels for her child not resonate when read through its pages? Well done, Mr. Munsch!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have! Every parent and child should read this book about the beautiful bond between parent and child.
Date published: 2017-04-20
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Such a nice story I have to say I wholeheartedly disagree with the bad reviews of this book. Children's books are meant to be dramatic and over the top. In the end it's really a lovely story about the love a mother has for her child and vice versa. I feel the same way about my son however would obviously not strap a ladder tonthr roof of my car to climb through his window once he's grown. I think we need to remember that this book is written for children, who tend to have fantastic imaginations and are drawn to adventurous and over the top stories. I doubt any kid is reading this and thinking "man this is so creepy".
Date published: 2017-04-17

Date published: 2017-04-04
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mixed feelings Love the love it shows but a little too sad at the end for kids. Topic a little too heavy for a bedtime story.
Date published: 2017-04-02
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful story All three of children absolutely LOVE this book! I first had for my older girls (now 20 & 23) and now read it to my 4 year old. They love how his mommy loves him and would drive across town to rock him to sleep or crawl into bed. A book of how much a mother loves her child!
Date published: 2017-04-01
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Classic! Yes, a little unrealistic where the mother crawls into the boys room when he's has moved out. But it's just a book. It's one of my favourite as a child and now my children
Date published: 2017-04-01
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Aww I love reading this book to my daughter just as I loved having it read to me as a child. Obviously it's not entirely realistic with the mother driving across town to rock her child to sleep but like most Robert Munsch books it's told how a child would interpret it. A great read for little ones and big ones alike.
Date published: 2017-03-31

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this book When I first read this book as a new mom, I cried. In a few pages, the enduring love and loyalty a parent feels for their child is highlighted throughout. Whenever I re-read it, I still cry as I think of my journey through parenthood as a humbling and beautiful experience.
Date published: 2017-03-17
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this book! This by far is my favourite Robert Munsch book! I bought this book and have read it many times to my kids and I buy it as a gift for most baby showers I attend. For people to review it and say it's creepy aren't looking at it from a child's perspective. It is a book for children after all. I will continue to read this book to my kids, and one day I will read it to my grandkids.
Date published: 2017-03-15
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Aways loved this book. When I was little we did a production play for this book. Now I'm a mother of a two year old I year when reading it.Its northern ilstrations it's the meaning behind it saying I will love you for ever. Some of these reviews go to in depth on the ilstrations and not the story behind it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Emotional Story. This book brings out so many emotions. I love this story and I quote it all the time to and about my son. I have yet to read it to him myself since I only just bought it as a gift for his birthday that is coming up in a few weeks but I am very excited since this is a book that is cherished forever. I will be honest, reading it as an adult it does get pretty creepy and is a bit unsettling but for obvious reasons, it isn't supposed to be taken too literally.

I heard somewhere it was about the author and his wife losing a child, but don't know about that. Either way, it's a beautiful book with a rhyme that stays with you for life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love one another This is such a sweet story. Mother loves and takes care of her child, then in her later years that child does the same for her. It brought tears to my eyes. Rated 3 out of 5 by from Love You Forever by Robert Munsch, Sheila McGraw I love this book..............My earliest memory of this book is my mom reading this aloud to my two year old self, and crying as she finished the last few pages. Now im the one who starts crying whenever i pull the book out and stare at the waterworn pages.Anyone who's read this book knows the words that the mother is constantly saying to her son as he's sleeping- I love you forever I'll like you for always As long as I'm living My baby you'll be. My mom made a tune for those words, and I cant imagine those words without the song. It was my little lullaby when i was younger.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favourite Robert Munsch book as a kid! When I was little I read this book every day, it was my favourite :) I also enjoyed hiding it in another book and then approaching my teacher to tell her I wanted to read a part of a book to her, Love You Forever made her tear up, I was a strange kid... but this was and is a good book.
Date published: 2017-01-18
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Niagara falls I cry every time I read this book. Something about it makes me weep. My boys must get a kick out of it because they often ask me to read it to them before bed when it's handy. Some adults find it creepy but kids do not think of it that way at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the Best Children's Book Ever Love You Forever is about a mother's unlimited love for her son throughout his growth from baby to adult. In the end, her son returns the favour and takes care of his mother when she is weak and sings her song to his daughter, carrying on the tradition. It is a great book for children of all ages - especially for children who experience separation from their parents. This is a book I read to every classroom of children I go to and it is a story that sticks with them for a long time. It is hard to believe that Robert Munsch's regular publisher wouldn't publish this book... #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful This is a favourite story of mine with a beautiful message. For those who say it is 'disturbing' I think they need to remember it is a fictionalized story of parental love and if it seems creepy it is you who is placing those feelings there. Kids often don't get subtlety which is why Munsch books are always exaggerated, this one is no different. #PlumReview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Book I got this as a gift when my daughter was born and I read it to her every night. It definitely makes me appreciate her even more knowing how they grow up so fast and that reading this to her I want her to know that no matter how old she gets I will always rock her and tell her I love her forever.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A classic that everyone probably should read at least once I'm not a Munsch fat at all because of the repetitive nature of the books, but I do appreciate the story of this one. Unfortunately, I will not read it regularly because it is too sad. Sure, growing old is a part of life and reality, but I don't want to constantly be reminded of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A tear jerker challenge. I challenged all my friends and family to read this book without tearing up. So far, all have failed. Reading the Author's notes on his inspiration for this story makes it more impossible not to become all teary eyed. (Please see his website for details.) This book will have the children asking "Why are you crying?"

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Childhood Favourite Worth Sharing I absolutely loved Robert Munsch as a child , especially listening to him read his own stories on Cassette. He has a wonderful way of bringing his storybook characters to life. By far this is one of my all time favourites and I just love to still and rock with my daughter as we read this lovely story to her. Of course I always finish by saying " I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always ...as long as I'm living my baby you'll be! "

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lets Children See a Parents love knows no bounds I read a few of the negative reviews and have to say that I completely disagree. From a developmental psychology standpoint, this book ensure young children understand the lasting bond and love their parent have with them. Realistically would a mother crawl through a window to see her child? I guess that depends on the situation! I know there is nothing i wouldn't do if my child needed me, and this book helps to show this! Keep in mind as well this is bing processed by a child's brain NOT an adults brain that can see the flaws in the story. It is a beautiful story of life, love, loss and the healing that comes from sharing with your family.

From Our Editors

"I'll love you foreverI'll like you for alwaysAs long as I'm livingMy baby you'll be."This is the quiet song a mother sings to her newborn son as she gently rocks him back and forth -- he is so sweet and quiet, so good. As the boy passes through the Terrible Twos, the Picky Preteens and Awkward Adolesence, he is not always sweet or quiet or good. He's often just the opposite. Even so, his mother sometimes sneaks into his room and rocks him, no matter big he gets, and sings him the same song. This wonderful story of enduring love is mutual -- the son also sings to his mother when she is old and sick -- and crosses generations -- the son sings the same song to his own daughter -- telling the ongoing tale of family devotion. The illustrations are heartfelt and charming, especially those in which the mother is sneaking up on her son -- at one point, she even drives across town with a ladder strapped to the roof of her car so she can reach the bedroom of his new house! But even when the story gets a little silly, the message is clear and moving -- don't be surprised if you get a little misty as you read! All ages.

Editorial Reviews

This book is beyond emotional. I dare any mother out there, or any child with an aging parent, to read this story and not have a lump in your throat... Should definitely be apart of your child's book collection.
