Five best friends spending the summer at Lumberjane scout camp...defeating yetis, three-eyed wolves, and giant falcons...what’s not to love?!

Friendship to the max! Jo, April, Mal, Molly and Ripley are five best pals determined to have an awesome summer together...and they’re not gonna let any insane quest or an array of supernatural critters get in their way! Not only is it the second title launching in our new BOOM! Box imprint but LUMBERJANES is one of those punk rock, love-everything-about-it stories that appeals to fans of basically all excellent things. It’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Gravity Falls and features five butt-kicking, rad teenage girls wailing on monsters and solving a mystery with the whole world at stake. And with the talent of acclaimed cartoonist Noelle Stevenson, talented newcomer Grace Ellis writing, and Brooke Allen on art, this is going to be a spectacular series that you won’t want to miss. Collects Lumberjanes #1-#4.
Noelle Stevenson is the creator of the web comic Nimona. Stevenson started Nimona as a student at Maryland Institute College of Art. The comic was first published in June 2012 and doubled as Stevenson's senior thesis.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An adorable romp I love each of these girls so much for different reasons. They are dynamic and original.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love love love My kid loves this book (7 now, 5 when she got it). The adults love it too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good start My 9 year old daughter loved this. As an adult, I was a little underwhelmed. This is Book One, but it starts a little too in-the-middle of things and I felt like the characters never got the proper introductions that they deserve. That said, th characterization was strong, the girls are strong, and it was a fun read, even if it was a little on-the-nose at times.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thoroughly Charming This comicbook series is inspired! The characters are diverse and interesting, and the story is full of love. I am a monthly reader of the series and recommend to anyone of any age that they pick up this exceptionally entertaining read. Fun fact: Instead of cursing, the campers exclaim the name of famous trailblazing women. That's enough for me!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delightful This is from the same studio who published The Backstagers; another amazing story. I'd say this is a classic story for the summer. A group of diverse gals at a sleep away summer camp come across crazy/spooky creatures, work together as a team, learn things about themselves and a mystery surrounding the camp, and have a kick ass camp owner fashioned after Rosie the Riveter. The volume always has the chapters begin with pages from the camp's booklet on what it means to be a Lumberjane and how to earn each badge that is featured in the story as things progress. This brings out the inner young girl in me and I can easily say this could become a young lady's favourite series so buying more than one volume at a time is worth your money; especially since it is on the thinner side as far as graphic novels go. I'm excited to see how the movie will turn out once it's released.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great diverse supportive female charactes! There were some immature aspects and jokes but honestly I enjoyed them and found the more childish aspects to be hilarious and entertaining. The relationships between the girls was super supportive and this was genuinely just a good time to read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Series My Daughter loves these books. She has ready the first 5 and I just bought the 6 one today. The only complaint I heard is that she gets into how one of the illustrators draw in one book and then the characters are a little different in another. But it must not bug her too much as she has re-read them already twice and she only got them this March!!!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Read, Cover Art a Bit Misleading 4.5/5 I was expecting the art inside to be like that of the cover but it was a tad different - but it wasn't bad! I loved the vibe of the entire comic, and I absolutely loved the Gravity Falls nostalgia-fest! The girls are totally badass and empowering - FRIENDSHIP TO THE MAX! The comic itself is so beautifully colourful - I can't wait to read Vol. 2!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A fun read Interesting story full of awesome and unique female characters. A bit disappointed that the cover art does not reflect the actual art inside, as the cover is done by a different artist.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I now plan on buying vol 2 A friend of mine recommended it to me and she was spot on. Loads of fun. All I can say against it is that the characters haven't quite defined themselves for me yet. Having said that I am planning on buying volume 2 very soon.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Reading for Kids I read this to my 4 year old and while she doesn't follow everything, we have a great time reading the chapters. Very empowering female characters!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Totally enjoyable! This is a great graphic novel for young teen girls. I described it to a friend as the less violent, less graphic version of Rat Queens. One of my favourite elements is how one of the characters makes exclamations using the names of oft' forgotten historical women. Very clever, great values, an all around enjoyable read.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lumberjanes: fun with friends! Lumberjanes is a super fun comic full of adventure, action, strange creatures, and awesome friends. What more would you want at summer camp? Jo, April, Mal, Molly, and Ripley. Five different and helpful friends. They all have their good times and bad times, their quirks, their skills and their fears. Their doubts. Their personalities come out in their likes and their clothes, their fun catchphrases ("What the junk?"). But they're all super supportive of each other. This comic is full of positive female friendships. It's not about showing up the others or taking control. They're ready to fight back against monsters as much as they're ready to go searching around in mysterious caves. It's about having fun together and figuring out the mysterious goings-on before cabin leader Jenny reigns them back in. The artwork is bright, colourful, and expressive. You can see the confusion on their faces when they come face to face with three-eyes foxes in the middle of the night in the middle of the forest. The huge grin on Ripley's face as she comes barreling in. The worry on Molly's when Mal gets hurt. The excitement on April's when get earns the Pungeon Master badge for clever word play. Their pure unadulterated curiosity can barely be contained on the page. This book is 100% unique characters and 100% exciting artwork, which adds up to 200% and is completely impossible, but nothing is impossible when it comes to these young hardcore lady-types. There's something going on in the woods, something that means three-eyes wolves and secret messages, and it's up to these five girls to figure out while kicking butt and having fun together. A must-read for those looking for fun.
