As the son of Frey, the god of summer, fertility, and health, Magnus isn't naturally inclined to fighting. But he has strong and steadfast friends, including Hearthstone the elf, Blitzen the dwarf, and Samirah the Valkyrie, and together they have achieved brave deeds, such as defeating Fenris Wolf and battling giants for Thor's hammer, Mjolnir. Now Magnus faces his most dangerous trial yet. His cousin, Annabeth, recruits her boyfriend, Percy Jackson, to give Magnus some pointers, but will his training be enough? Loki is free from his chains. He's readyingNaglfar, the Ship of the Dead, complete with a host of giants and zombies, to sail against the Asgardian gods and begin the final battle of Ragnarok. It's up to Magnus and his friends to stop him, but to do so they will have to sail across the oceans of Midgard, Jotunheim, and Niflheim in a desperate race to reachNaglfarbefore it's ready to sail. Along the way, they will face angry sea gods, hostile giants, and an evil fire-breathing dragon. Magnus's biggest challenge will be facing his own inner demons. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Book While still sporting that classic Rick Riordan flare this book proved (and series), proved that I could handle itself mostly apart from Percy Jackson. While his other books in this series were amazing this was my least favourite in the series for a few reasons. 1. The end battle should have been bigger, there was so much anticipation and work for Magnus to thank his friends (while I understand that is important and he wanted that to come across I was hoping for something a little bit bigger) 2. The ending. I felt that the ending was much to abrupt for the flow of the book, one second they were in battle the next they were lounging around the hotel again. I feel like we needed more time for the aftermath of the battle and meeting with the gods. I would have also liked a bit more explanation of what they were going to do after everything was over. These points were smaller problems that I had with the book and I am very excited to see what is to come. After the ending (and small cliffhanger) I know that this will not be the end of our Norse demigods and their adventures. I hope to see them begin to interact with more Greek and Roman demigods seeing as they know each other and possibly do a quest or two along the way.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I love this! I have been a Rick Riordan fan for a while. It is a bit slow and not as fast pace as the other series like Kane Chronicles (I just love Egyptian theme books), but this book still delivers like the other series. I think all parents should pick up one for the kids to encourage reading.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wasn't his best I thoroughly enjoy Rick Riordan's books, but this one was a little bit of a let down. It was still a good story and I love the characters, but I found that it ended a little more abruptly like it was a rushed finish. I know it won't be the last time we will see Magnus Chase and his crew, but it seemed like such a soft way to end the trilogy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rick Riordan at his finest! I just love this series. I might even prefer it to Heroes of Olympus, but it's too close to call. I'm super sad that it's just a trilogy but look forward to seeing snippets of Magnus in the future!

PRAISE FOR THE SWORD OF SUMMER

"The Sword of Summer is a propulsive, kinetic, witty rebooting of Norse mythology with all the charm of the Percy Jackson novels. Instantly likeable heroes! Insane action! Cool villains! A twisting, turning, always exciting story! Rick Riordan does it again, even better."-New York Times best-selling author Michael Grant
