Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Core of all Management Books Peter Drucker is considered the "father of management". His work began in the 1930's and he has been working to improve and build effective managers everywhere, whether you are for profit or non-profit. His retirement was when he passed away at over 90 years old in 2005. Management: Revised Edition is a conglomeration of Drucker's management thought processes brought into our and future decades. Released in 2008, the book goes over how organizations are created, what defines effective organizations and what actions and attributes managers need to have in order to impact their business in the present and in the future. Being one of the first thought leaders to include "people" as not a resource, but as an "asset", Drucker also goes over people management and how to maximize an individual's strengths in order for her to prosper in her work environment. The book goes into great detail from beginning to end (it's 550 pages, shorter than the original at 900 pages in the 1970's but just as dense, if not more.) There are tons of examples on companies, governments and individuals that have succeeded, or not, on the practice of management. Many business books today are written with Peter Drucker's core prinicples in mind, Jim Collins Good to Great along with the executives that participated in the study contain a lot of his prinicples which they give Drucker tons of credit for. Definite must read, although an extremely dense but riveting book if you love management.
