A ruthless tycoon

Savage ambition has brought common-born Rhys Winterborne vast wealth and success. In business and beyond, Rhys gets exactly what he wants. And from the moment he meets the shy, aristocratic Lady Helen Ravenel, he is determined to possess her. If he must take her virtue to ensure she marries him, so much the better . . .

A sheltered beauty

Helen has had little contact with the glittering, cynical world of London society. Yet Rhys’s determined seduction awakens an intense mutual passion. Helen’s gentle upbringing belies a stubborn conviction that only she can tame her unruly husband. As Rhys’s enemies conspire against them, Helen must trust him with her darkest secret. The risks are unthinkable . . . the reward, a lifetime of incomparable bliss. And it all begins with…

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 5+++ STARS! If i could give this book 10 starts I would! Rhys and Helen were absolute perfection, and have easily earned a place on my list of ffavorite couples of all time. This is one of those stories that will stay with you long after you've turned the last page, and it's one I don't doubt I'll be revisiting again and again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not for me I know that Lisa has written better works... This was just one big flop and I didn't like it, sorry.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from She could have done so much better by these characters This could have been another great by Lisa Kleypas - something like her novel "Where Dreams Begin", but the story and the characters just didn't feel developed enough. It was a disappointment since the story was so built up in the previous novel.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Sweet and Good I agree with the reviewers who say that most of the groundwork was done in the previous book so there wasn't as much of a lead up when compared to her other books. However the lead up was still there and as readers we are still able to see how they slowly fit together and come to depend on one another. It was very enjoyable and I really really liked it. If you're a Lisa Kleypas fan I highly recommend this one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Much better than the first one! This was an enjoyable read, but like a few other reviewers have mentioned, it was missing "the chase," which happened earlier in the previous book as a side plot. Other than that, this was a very nice read.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lisa Kleypas nevers fails Ms. Kleypas is an excellent romance writer. She always gets just the right amount of fun and love in each novel. I really enjoyed this one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Enjoyed it This was a really good book. To be honest, like the other reviewers, the only reason I dropped a star is because the build up, or rather, the chase, happened in the last book, and was thus missing in this book. There was the inclusion of a trope, which I felt was a little forced, that also motivated me to drop a star. Otherwise, this is a great LK story.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Am I hitting a Kleypas slump? I was so looking forward to reading this next installment of the Ravenels because I am fan of the innocent heroine trope who needs a little bit of help and protection. But this book felt so "meh". Another reviewer wrote that it was missing the chase -- and maybe that was it? The hero and heroine were already in an established relationship at the beginning of the novel -- this is something Kleypas has done before in her other series. It can help but it can also hinder. Where half the chase happens in the previous book (and is *not* focused on) then in the second book is mostly resolved can zap a romance novel. There are ways around this -- building the tension between two people who are learning to support each other and struggling -- but there was no real deep struggle. I still recommend Kleypas and will continue to buy her books but I'm not sure if I will re-read this book.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really good I love Lisa Kleypas, she's an instant buy for me. This one was missing "the chase" they were already established as a couple in the first one and I read that one a while back. However, they were still cute in their own book and I loved the writing.

Editorial Reviews

“Emotional depth, appealing characters, strong storylines and sexual tension are what make Kleypas’ novels reader favorites...but what will truly captivate them is watching the characters grow as love makes them the best they can be. A lovely, unforgettable story.”
