In December 1981, a battalion of Salvadoran soldiers trained by the United States Army entered the Mozote where they murdered hundreds of women, men, and children. While the massacre was reported in the United States with photographs and other evidence, the government quickly dismissed it as propaganda. Civil society forgot the case and the war in the Central American country continued its terrible destruction of life.
