about

The Talon Pack continues with an outcast witch and a wolf who can see past the darkness.

As Heir to the Talon Pack, Ryder Brentwood carries the responsibility of not only protecting his Pack, but ensuring its future. Only no one knows that as he does this, he must also shield his people from their past. When a witch with no ties bursts into his life, he must decide if he can overcome the depravity of his secrets and trust the one person who could break the fragile hold on his control.

Grieving over the loss of her twin and on the run from the unknown, Leah Helm knows she is far more alone than she thought possible. Her coven shunned her before she was born and the wolves she sought protection with are in a war of their own. When a wolf with a whisper of secrets is forced to work with her in order to protect their people, she finds she might not be so alone after all.

The world knows more than they ever have before about those shrouded in darkness, while Ryder and Leah are thrust into the center of a conflict they never should have been part of to begin with. On their journey they must not only fight those against them, but the burning temptation that is flaring between them. Fate might have paved their path, but that doesn’t mean they have to follow.

Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from "Mated in Mist" by Carrie Ann Ryan. Book 3 in the Talon Pack series. I read this book in April 2016. This was my review. An excellent addition to the Talon Pack series. Heartbreaking, heartwarming and frustrating! (but in a good way!) The romantic story focuses on Ryder and Leah. Ryder is the Heir of the Talon Pack. Out of all his brothers, he's the quite one and only speaks when he has something important to say. But he's also different. He has an ability he's never told his brothers about. It's because of this ability that Ryder has decided never to take a mate fearing he may hurt them....until he meets Leah. He knows she's his fated mate and no matter how attracted he is to her, he just can't mate her. He just can't take the chance of hurting Leah. Leah is a witch on the run. She's grieving over the death of her twin brother and has been taken in by the Talon Pack. The minute she meets Ryder, she's knows they are potential mates. She's not a wolf but her magic is drawn to Ryder. But Ryder is giving Leah mixed messages. Kissing her one moment and turning her away the next. He's holding something back from her; a secret he says he can't tell her. Or maybe he just doesn't trust her enough. Rolled into the romantic story line is the overall plot of the book. Someone is trying to kill Leah. The witches and wolf packs (both Redwood and Talon) have been exposed to the humans and now humans are hunting them. The government is freaking out over what to do with the non-humans and a group of humans calling themselves Humans First are starting a war with the wolves and witches. More than one evil bad guy is revealed and the epilogue teases the reader just enough to make you want to keep on reading to see what happens next and who the next romantic couple with be. I really enjoyed this book. The characters are very likable and the descriptions of the situations are very well written. The story flows really smoothly. The romantic chemistry between Ryder and Leah was very well done. Both of them struggling with thinking they're not good enough for each other because of their pasts makes their relationship a challenge to work through. And even though you know there's going to be a happy ending, you find yourself hoping they're going to work through their issues. Overall, this book was really excellent and I can't wait to read the next book in the series!
