Medium Raw marks the return of the inimitable Anthony Bourdain, author of the blockbuster bestseller Kitchen Confidential and three-time Emmy Award-nominated host of No Reservations on TV’s Travel Channel. Bourdain calls his book, “A Bloody Valentine to the World of Food and the People Who Cook,” and he is at his entertaining best as he takes aim at some of the biggest names in the foodie world, including David Chang, Alice Waters, the Top Chef winners and losers, and many more. If Hunter S. Thompson had written a book about the restaurant business, it could have been Medium Raw.<_o3a_p>

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quick, funny & eccentric If you enjoy any of Anthony Bourdain's shows like The Layover or No reservations you'll enjoy this book. However, if meat eating bothers you then this is a book you should avoid. Anthony Bourdain loves meat and doesn't shy away in his descriptions of meals or the process of preparing meat. Personally, that just added to my enjoyment because I found the descriptions and discussions fascinating but I can see it bothering some. Medium Raw is quick, it's funny and, at times, somewhat eccentric as you progress through the different chapters but to me that added to the charm. The references to things mentioned in kitchen confidential were lost on me as I haven't read it yet but to anyone who has, there is a chapter following up on some people mentioned in the book that might interest you

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bourdain Strikes Again! Bourdain has the gift of prose and this doesn't disappoint. The first half of the book is stronger as the topics are more generalized about food and culture. The second part begins to drag (not too much, just a teaspoon) as Bourdain discusses some of his buddies and chefs in the industry. Still a joy to read!

Editorial Reviews

“Mr. Bourdain is a vivid, bawdy and often foul-mouthed writer. He thrills in the attack, but he is also an enthusiast who writes well about things he holds dear.”
