The new Play-by-Play novel by Jaci Burton

Everything’s coming together for budding fashion designer Carolina Preston. Only months away from having her own line, she could use some publicity. That’s when her brother suggests his best friend as a model—hockey player Drew Hogan.

Carolina and Drew already have a history—a hot one, back in college. Unforgettable for Carolina, but for Drew, just another slap shot. This time, though, it’s different. His perfect body would be for professional use only. This time, she could use him.

Drew is all for it. He’s looking forward to the exposure. Plus, it would give him a chance to prove to Carolina that he’s changed. If only he could thaw her emotions, convince her to let down her guard and let him in just one more time…

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Melting the Ice (Play-by-Play #7) by Jaci Burton Oh my God!!!! Another book in the Play by Play series! Hell to the yes!I love a second chance romance, but I do feel this story was lacking the angsty, intense longing feelings that I get when reading about a love opportunity missed or one gone wrong. I think if I would’ve got a little more of their history I might have felt differently. Their history was touched on a little in One Sweet Ride, so maybe this is where I missed out by not reading the previous story. Apparently it centered on Gray, Carolina’s brother, and the fact that Drew and Carolina had an awkward meet up in that book was talked about here. Still, their romance was satisfying and oh, boy was it ever HOT! Wow, I’ve read a couple of Jaci Burton’s books (the Hope series) and this was the hottest one yet! Drew had no problem whatsoever vocalizing what he wanted! Whoa!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It was okay ** spoiler alert ** 3.5 Stars Carolina and Drew have a past. They shared one drunken night together in college, then Carolina wakes up the next morning alone and broken-hearted. Her crush had literally crushed her hopes and dreams of a relationship. But Carolina shook it off, concentrated on her dreams and is now on the verge of becoming a successful clothing designer. The last thing she needs is Drew trying to work his way back into her life, and her heart. Drew is a super sexy hockey player with the body of a Greek god. Ever since he saw Carolina at her family’s Fourth of July barbecue, he’s wanted a second chance to show her he’s not the same man he was back in college. Luck is on his side when his best friend, and Carolina’s brother, Gray gives him a call to ask him for help with Carolina’s clothing line by being a model for her fashion show. Drew is ready for the challenge of winning Carolina over, but his plans to get back into her good graces ends them both in a no-strings sexual relationship that has Drew, surprisingly, wanting more. Is it possible for two people with busy careers to have sex without emotional attachments or will love find a way of blossoming regardless of the couple’s protests? I had some mixed feelings about this book. I thought Carolina was a workaholic with no passion whatsoever. I didn’t think she and Drew had good sexual chemistry. I realize they had a bad past but the love scenes weren’t believable for me. I did think Drew was incredibly sexy and I loved the description of his hockey games. What completely broke my heart in the book was the scene with Drew and Bill, Drew’s dorm parent from college. Bill was a mentor and a second father to him, Gray, Garrett, and Trevor. Bill is dying of cancer and the thought of losing him has hit the guys hard. I was totally balling as Drew and Bill had what may be their last conversation together. What I also noticed about the book was that Drew’s family isn’t mentioned or talked about that much. The series has always been family-oriented so it was a little disappointing not to see that aspect of the story. I enjoy reading about these new players but I do miss seeing the Riley family. I’m very much looking forward to Haven and Trevor’s book. Jaci Burton is a wonderful story teller. Her books are fast-paced reads filled with humor, family and love. And a lot of sexy athletes :) ***I received an ebook copy from the publisher via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***
