Strange changes are taking place in Village. Once a utopian community that prided itself on its welcome to new strangers, Village will soon be closed to all outsiders. As one of the few people able to travel through the dangerous Forest, Matty must deliver the message of Village’s closing and try to convince Seer’s daughter to return with him before it’s too late. But Forest has become hostile to Matty as well, and he must risk everything to fight his way through it, armed only with an emerging power he cannot yet explain or understand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Messenger Amazing book about a possible future of earth. I couldn't put it down. Very thought provoking and I am glad to say that I have the other 3 books by Lois Lowry that are companions to this novel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Breaks your heart but wonderfully written Mini Book Review: This one just about broke my heart! I was crying my eyes out on the plane ride home (And yes my son was making fun of me, thank you very much). Cannot say more that that or I would spoil the story. I could feel the authors pain for her lost son and her hope for society (sorry met her at BEA last year and learned about her life), I really felt this was the author putting her heart out for us all to see. As I have mentioned before her stories are so simple, yet complex. You can pick up so much from her commentary on society and the discussions you could have about this are unending. I also enjoyed the connecting of the stories from The Giver and Gathering Blue. Lots of moments of light humour added just when you needed them most, which to me is the sign of a brilliant writer. My only complaint, as with the other books in the series, are that some questions not answered and I wanted more. Still want to know how the Trader got so much power, how leader didn't know and what happened to him at the end. Sorry I am needy I want everything wrapped up. Cannot wait to crack open Son. Unfortunately I got about 6 other books to review before that happens. 4.5 Dewey's I purchased this for my Kobo for my trip to Cancun (Read the whole thing on the plane ride home - thanks hubby for sitting with Jesse)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Conclusion to The Giver Series This book answered questions for me about the series, many of which I didn't even realize I had until I was presented with the end result. Part of what I had enjoyed about the previous two was the open ending. It is a complete story on its own, but I really really recommend reading The Giver then Gathering Blue first. Memorable and thought provoking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overcoming hate. When hate and discrimination sweep over the Village, villagers try to close its borders to others in need of refuge. Matty sets out on a journey to reunite a young girl, in a neighbouring village, with her blind father. This is an intellectual and emotional tale of overcoming prejudice and knowing how to use one's natural gifts and abilites.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from There's A Different World Out There... Addictive! A story with a moral that people know even while reading this book without caring. Lois Lowry changed the way I've looked at this world ever since i read this book. Our world, the world we are living in is a world many people think is hard, but compared to Matt's world... our world is great. In Matt's world the disabled are cast aside and selfishness are bowed down on to. A world that even nature is the enemy, but sometimes a few people can come along and change peoples life. But sacraficing their own. Loyal...Brave...Love...Misery These things can teach us stuff that 10 years in school can't. It's a book that can change everone's life.
