Rated 2 out of 5 by from Did not live up to the hype. For all the love this compilation is getting, it does not live up to the hype. There are better poets, with more complex language, and more depth to their messages. While the accompanying drawings are charming and gorgeous, they do not save the poetry. Common thoughts written down are not groundbreaking- they're just relate-able. And if you're looking for something to relate to, this is your book. But if you're looking for something to change the way you think about yourself and others, something more universal, I suggest The Madness Vase by Andrea Gibson

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Aesthetically very nice; OK poems So much of it was on Instagram that by the time I got to the actual book, I had already read so many of the poems and the power of words were a little lost. I think it's a beautiful book, but I didn't particularly feel a groundbreaking shift in worldview that most people who had read the book reviewed. I think Rupi Kaur is a very interesting and intelligent human, this book is OK.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great read! Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur was written in four parts: The Hurting, The Loving, The Breaking and The Healing. High school students requested this book for reading and since I catalogued it, the book was signed out several times, and continues to be on hold for other pupils in our school. I would recommend this section to anyone going through a tough time

Though these poems are certain to evoke some uncomfortable emotions, it tackles important issues and will leave any female reader with a sense of empowerment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful This is a powerful little book of poetry that is beautiful and healing (and a little triggering at the same time if you don't know what to expect!). I'm not one to read poetry, but a coworker highly recommended it and I have to admit - this book is lovely, well-written, and full of meaning.
Date published: 2017-11-22
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Read in one setting--- borrow dont buy The author touches on the fears that women live with and maybe because I know them myself I didnt find the poetry profound or particularly aw inspiring. It takes you through a timeline of her abuse, finding love, losing love then finding herself. I borrowed the book from my local library and im glad I did. Although this was a journey that made me reflect on my experiences, I wouldn't revisit these poems for inspiration and for that reason I am ranking it as a one timer, so not worth the over $20 price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from i loved it amanda lovelace is an amazing poet, she tells the story of her childhood and what she had to grow up with from her mother, she tells the story of her falling in love and all with wonderful references to princesses
Date published: 2017-11-18
Rated 5 out of 5 by from beautifully written this poetry novel is beautifully written and each piece is absolutely lovely! probably for a little older audience but i'd say someone 16 could read it (if mature enough to handle tales of abuse, etc.)
Date published: 2017-11-18
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful Powerful and honest about so many real issues that don't get talked about enough.
Date published: 2017-11-17
Rated 3 out of 5 by from A good, quick read I enjoyed the rawness of this book. Like you know everything and yet nothing about the author. Something to read when you're feeling down or frustrated because it resonates with you and then picks you up (if that makes sense).
Date published: 2017-11-17
Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of my favourite books! This book is what got me into poetry. I learned that poetry is anything that makes you feel something, and I felt so much when reading Milk and Honey.
Date published: 2017-11-17
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Book Helped me through hard times Dealing with my own struggles of mental illness and trauma, Rupi helped me to feel less alone and to reach out for help. She is a brilliant young feminist poet and I cannot wait to read everything she writes! <3

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Empowering to those who feel lost I read this in a single sitting and found the story to be compelling. This gave me strength going through a hard break up and made me feel whole again.
Date published: 2017-11-17
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Truly touching and emotional. Made me cry and feel powerful all at once. It helped me through a tragic break up in my life. Recommend to anyone going through a hard time in life. Audience is directed at women.
Date published: 2017-11-17
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerrful I think you have to read it to understand why so many people love it. However, be careful because the subject matter is intense and can be graphic. Personally, it's what I think makes this poetry so powerful, but if you're sensitive to it you should read a little from it before you purchase it. I have recommended this to my friend and she loved it. We connected through it and felt connected to other women too. #plumreview
Date published: 2017-11-17
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome Read! I got this book when it came out! Im not much of a reader but because all of the pages were filled with short poems, I felt motivated to keep reading. Such amazing topics for women, however she could work on reaching out to the male audience more.
Date published: 2017-11-17
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful Rupi Kaur has the ability to evoke emotion in her readers. You walk in her shoes and know what it is to be her while reading her work. The poems are vulnerable and evocative.
Date published: 2017-11-16
Rated 5 out of 5 by from RECOMMEND Full of emotion, graphics of pain, pure art. Written to speak to a certain type of audience for sure; not all may understand

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it. Great poems. Nice little simple illustrations to go with some of them, too. This was a peaceful read for someone who has experienced some of the darker things written about in this collection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Minimalist and enchanting I never knew I would like poetry this much. Her writing seems simple but is so full of meaning. Every girl should read this one at least once in her life. So worth it. I love it.
Date published: 2017-11-15
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful I received this as a gift for my birthday. I was considering buying it myself but was not sure. I absolutely loved the way this collection was divided. The poems were beautiful and I think every woman can relate to one, if not some of them. After reading The Sun and Her Flowers, I would say that this collection is best. 1 star off for some of the more graphic, sexual poems which are not my cup of tea.
Date published: 2017-11-14
Rated 4 out of 5 by from wonderful stories. These are wonderful stories in this book, I really enjoyed it.
Date published: 2017-11-13
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Read It This was one of my first poetry books and this is a book that really introduced me to a different style of poetry that I never thought I would see. Poetry for me was always boring and I could never really connect or read within the lines, but this is poetry that really gets you within it. It has raw emotions and feelings that connect and resonate with you. It is a fare warning that this is vivid, and if you are not ready to be exposed to such emotions, and imagery you won't like it.
Date published: 2017-11-13
Rated 3 out of 5 by from important read some passages in here I had to stop myself and re-read because they were so amazing. great passages and quick read - touches on important themes
Date published: 2017-11-13
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely Read Going through this book of poems there were many times where I was thinking "Oh my gosh, this is me! This poem is about me!" I could relate to so much of what Amanda Lovelace was writing and it made it a very pleasurable and easy read for me. I think the beautiful thing about poetry is that it can be whatever you want it to be (which is actually something she says in this book). I am glad I bought this.
Date published: 2017-11-13
Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Touching and Intense Read! I can be quite picky and severe when it comes to poetry as it has to make me feel, ache, and wonder. It's not an easy task to do. But I'll say this: Rupi Kaur delivered brilliantly. I loved her minimalist approach to most of her poems and their intensity. The word choice is deliberate yet touches one's soul with their truth. In one word? Raw. That's what these poems are - they're so raw they grip your guts and twist them, but their trick? They make you want more! There's only one thing I disliked about it and it was how many talks and references about sex there are. I was growing tired and annoyed of reading about it... It was as though it made up her whole life. I understand it might be important for the majority of people, but it was redundant and vulgar. I didn't expect much from Milk and Honey, but I had a lot of fun (and heartache, let's admit it here) reading this collection. In my opinion, it focuses on love, want, sex, abuse, heartache, and happiness. The writing was a bit surprising because I am used to writing each new verse with capital letters in my own poetry, but Rupi Kaur never used a capital at all! Different, but interesting in its own way. I gave it four stars because how wonderfully emotional it is (positive) and for the overuse of sex (negative). I encourage everyone to read it, mostly women as it tackles difficulties we experience everyday. Be aware that this collection of poems is not soft. You will be shaken, moved, and sometimes even thrown off your feet. But it'll leave a good trace on you. I could go on and on, but really, you just have to try it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice. I really enjoyed reading this book.
Date published: 2017-11-12
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Liked it The author writes about very personal topics relating to family, relationships, and love with raw emotion and honesty. There was no holding back to taboo topics which I think makes it so relevant and relatable to today's young people, women. Most of the poems are short but speak volumes.
Date published: 2017-11-12
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love, Love, LOVE!! I love both of Rupi Kaur's poetry collections - Milk and Honey and The Sun and her Flowers and I heard this one was similar. After reading a few of Lovelace's poems, I fell in love with her style of poetry writing. She sends an inspiring message across to all girls and women. I will definitely reread it many times. Would be a great read to buy for a daughter or friend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pure & Raw. Rupi Kaur is too good. Her words are aching, real, share hurt and plan - they make you want to cry, shout, be angry BUT they're hopeful and healing all at once. As a feminist, all the messages she shares and/or is sending are critical for everyone to read. She is truly inspiring. Excellent read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazingly penned and moving I bought this after hearing so many people rave about it. The book helps you grow as a person. Each poem within the book is a droplet of milk and honey. I would recommend this book to anyone looking to get past certain things or just for the experience of whats written inside.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unexpected I picked this up while I was waiting for a friend on our way to the movies and I found myself reading almost the whole thing. I broke my book diet and brought it home with me. I haven't visited much poetry lately, but this really spoke to me. There were so many real and relatable poems right beside raw and painful ones. The emotion flows out of this. I am so happy to have this book at home with me and I look forward to the new one that should be out next year.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It was fine I bought this book with relatively high expectations, which unfortunately this book did not exceed. The title would imply the speaker in this book rises above circumstance to find a new peace, but instead, the poems come across angsty and stubborn. I personally found the speaker of these poems a bit whiney (for lack of a better word), seemingly drawing from specific, unique experiences - with little effort made to make the poems accessible to the reader. While there were a few poems where the author conveyed clear and strong emotions, they did not resonate throughout the work. Overall the book was fine, but definitely not what I was expecting.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beautiful, but expected more... This book of poetry was amazingly written. They were heartfelt and real. However, I have been hearing so, so much about this author and her poems and truly expected more. It seemed very hyped, and though the poems are beautiful, I did hope it would be more than what it was. I'm not sure how to explain it, but I wanted this book of poetry to be more relatable to me as it was with many others but I'm not sure if it was a failure to connect myself to the poems, but I didn't find myself as captivated into the words as I have been when I have read other books of poetry. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this book above others I have read of poetry. I personally see this book as overhyped and as much as the words were wonderfully written, they didn't seem to tether any emotion into myself as I read; I just kind of read the words and wasn't as into it as normally I find myself when reading poetry.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful A very accessible poetic experience. This is not a book for those who believe that poetry must fit a particular form or be reminiscent of canonical literature. It is raw and emotive and explores universal themes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Like a Tumblr Blog As boring as a Tumblr blog. Why is all of this Tumblr-esque poetry so popular right now? Not worth the money.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pretty good I've read a lot of poetry, and while this was interesting, I wasn't particularly wowed by it. There were certainly a handful of poems that stuck out, but for the most part there wasn't anything exceptional.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good I appreciate the intensity of this book, it's a good poetry book, but it was a bit too graphic for me, not at all what I expected. It made me a little uncomfortable, maybe because I was expecting something different, but I had noticed that there was so much hype around this book so I decided to buy it and check it out for myself without really reading what it was about.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING. EXCEPTIONAL. BREATHTAKING. I've heard so many things about this book, and I'm SO GLAD i bought it! This book is real, raw, descriptive, and emotional. That said, it's not for the faint of heart. It goes into great detail about subjects we all know, but never bring up in casual conversation. An amazing read; a real page turner! Would definitely recommend. Great for the inner poet in all of us! :-)
