about

A hardcover gift edition of Milk and Honey, the New York Times bestselling poetry and prose collection by Rupi Kaur. Milk and Honey is a collection of poetry and prose about survival. About the experience of violence, abuse, love, loss, and femininity.

This clothbound exclusive edition features deckled edge paper, a woven ribbon marker, and a foreword written by the author.  The book is divided into four chapters, and each chapter serves a different purpose. Deals with a different pain. Heals a different heartache. Milk and Honey takes readers through a journey of the most bitter moments in life and finds sweetness in them because there is sweetness everywhere if you are just willing to look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautifully written This had some moving and emotional pieces in it - bought this for myself as a self care book and loved it lots
Date published: 2017-12-04
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful book Beautiful, relatable, and honest. Great for all women (although heavy content, so not for children).
Date published: 2017-11-30
Rated 5 out of 5 by from love it I own the paperback edition, and it is by far my favorite book of poetry. Carries some strong trigger warnings for domestic violence/ emotional and sexual abuse.
Date published: 2017-11-24
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Phenomenal I've owned this book for less than a week and I've reread it 7 times, I put markers at all my favourite poems in order, it's truly a fantastic book
Date published: 2017-10-30
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great book for young women I received this as a gift from a friend. Beautiful poetry about being a woman and all the complications and emotions that go along with that. I recommend to anyone going through a difficult time or to those learning to be on their own. The illustrations in addition are very poignant. It is something you will always remember and go back to. When reading Milk and Honey I felt like I wasn't alone and that there are others out there who feel the same way I do.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Enjoyed it This was a poignant read and some of the poems really stuck with me. A little overhyped, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inspiring Deep, inspirational, and just awe inspiring. I love this book
Date published: 2017-10-26
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great, but.. I truly did enjoy this book of poetry, it was well written and thought provoking. However, there were was something lacking, in my opinion. I feel that focused too much on the personal, rather than its relationship to the world. That doesn't mean the book isn't great, because it is. I hope her newest book does what this one doesn't. Still lovely nonetheless.
Date published: 2017-10-25
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautifully Written This poetry book is beautifully written about many life lessons and struggles. Would definitely reccomend.
Date published: 2017-10-25

Date published: 2017-10-19
Rated 5 out of 5 by from a beautiful collection of poetry This book is often viewed as overhyped, but I personally believe it is worth its hype. It is a beautiful collection of poetry that touches on various subjects that are very important. I found myself relating to many of the poems and it helped to read that others feel the same things I do.
Date published: 2017-10-17
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Healing and eye-opening This book, while some may think is overhyped, was so healing and helped me realize a lot of things about myself and my state of mind when I first read it. I could relate to each so much, especially since it also comes from a woman of colour.
Date published: 2017-10-15
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Rupi Kaur includes exceptional pieces that embrace her heritage and that empower her as a first generation Canadian and as a woman. This collection is an absolute must-read. Very minimalist and thought-provoking.
Date published: 2017-10-15
Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING! I got this book after seeing everyone talking about it on Instagram. After researching a little bit, found out the author was from Toronto. It urged me to buy the book to check it out for myself. And I am so glad I did. It was amazing, I read it in like half an hour. I know they are just a collection of poems but somehow Rupi ties them all together that when you finish reading all the poems, it feels as if you've finished reading a novel. I absolutely adored them all as I could relate to them all. But it is definitely worth reading and you will not regret it! I promise!
Date published: 2017-10-14
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lovely I know it's a little overdone on Tumblr and Instagram, but I love this style of poetry. It's lovely, raw, and super quick to read.
Date published: 2017-10-13
Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Eye Opening Read This does seem like a book I would of read as a teenager more than now but I can still appreciate the writing and I think it's a great read.
Date published: 2017-10-13
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yes to this! I love the chapters! I can really relate and it was something that I would read again and again.
Date published: 2017-10-13
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poetry Lives On This is not the canonical literature pored over by most undergrads, but that is what is so important about it. Female authors of colour are so often ignored, and I'm so glad that this is getting so much attention and praise. The work is accessible and simple, while being stunning, and powerful. Kaur's poetry is evocative and beautiful and resonated deeply for me.
Date published: 2017-10-12
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not exemplary, but not bad I don't mind poems like these, but I find them far less eloquent than some of the more classic works of prose. Frankly I don't find them as touching or well-phrased as I expected from a book this popular.
Date published: 2017-10-10
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Loved reading this! I really enjoyed reading through this book and was hooked from the first page. Normally it takes me a while to read a book but I read this within a few days. Her poetry/prose speaks of so much pain yet is very inspirational as well. Definitely recommend giving this a read!
Date published: 2017-10-10
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Eloquent and Beautiful Rupi Kaur's powerful poetry is well-paired with her simplistic drawings and gives the reader an added depth and connection. It is beautifully written and deeply moving; my only complaint is that it had to end.
Date published: 2017-10-09
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Overrated Only popular because its trendy and simple to understand. Its not the worst poetry, but its very pretentious and teen-centric. This is not the right book, if you are looking for real, emotional poetry.
Date published: 2017-10-09
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Recommended For Anyone Struggling With Any Mental Illness or Inner Turmoil Although Rupi Kaurs writing style isn't for everyone, I really enjoyed the illustrations and layout of each page. I bought this novel in hopes of finding some sort of relief from my anxiety, and I'm happy to say I found comfort in the words she wrote. I'd recommend this novel for anyone dealing with any type of mental illness or inner turmoil as it can be extremely healing. Disclaimer: this novel will rip open emotional bandaids that I wasn't totally prepared for.
Date published: 2017-10-09
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing read, a wonderful page turner! I've heard so much about this book so I finally decided to pick it up and give it a read, and I must say, I couldn't put it down! Beautifully structured and the illustrations are brilliant! It's perfect for the inner poet in all of us.
Date published: 2017-10-07
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not poetry this is not art. it is not poetry. it is bad. (that about sums up the book, in a Rupi Kaur style poem)
Date published: 2017-10-06
Rated 5 out of 5 by from tears!!!! Read this in one hour and cried like a baby almost the whole time. You can tell the poems are so personal to Rupi, however they are relatable enough that you can connect the poems to your own life. Absolutely amazing. Loved her writing so much, i just ordered her second poem book!!!!!

Date published: 2017-09-05
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mixed feelings I feel like this book is overhyped due to the fascination with Tumblr style poems as others have said. Some of the poems were beautiful and relatable, but I definitely feel like people enjoy it for the Tumblr/instagram aesthetic. It wouldnt be my poetry recommendation, but I did like some of it. Really quick/short read.

Date published: 2017-08-23
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mixed feelings about this book I'm not sure how I feel about this book. I do agree with a lot of other reviews here that most of the "poems" just look like some Tumblr style quotes with random enters in the middle of the sentence. However, I found a few of the poems very interesting and the illustrations are really beautiful too! So I still enjoyed reading this book even though it seemed a bit too... simple?
Date published: 2017-08-22
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Absolutely beautiful Although some of the poems are simply written, they have an amazing effect on the reader. I can't wait to read another book by this author.

Whenever I read this book, I can't help but read each page twice because the poems are heartfelt and exquisite. I'd recommend it to anyone! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible Read I was blown away by Rupi Kaur's ability to make me feel so many things with her words. Her poetry is empowering, inspiring and incredibly relatable. I can't wait for her next book
Date published: 2017-08-14
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful Beautiful poems. So intimate and unsettling to experience what the author had been through but an amazing insight on what others lives can be like.
Date published: 2017-08-08
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Impressed I'd never heard of Rupi Kaur until this book started appearing on the shelves at Chapters. I loved the raw, almost disturbingly honest writing. I felt I could truly relate on another level as an Indian woman. I found it to be very powerful writing and I am looking forward to her next book.
Date published: 2017-08-06
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Really simple poems, but have a lot of emotion to them.
Date published: 2017-08-04
Rated 2 out of 5 by from I was let down I had high expectation for this book, as it has one of my favourite pieces in it i want to apologize to all the women i have called pretty. before i’ve called them intelligent or brave. i am sorry i made it sound as though something as simple as what you’re born with is the most you have to be proud of when your spirit has crushed mountains from now on i will say things like, you are resilient or, you are extraordinary. not because i don’t think you’re pretty. but because you are so much more than that" I was unimpressed my reoccurring themes, and although I do use Tumblr, I found the overuse of "Cliche" topics and heartbreak common and...not innovative. I will give her upcoming book a try, but I do not currently hold high expectations for it.
Date published: 2017-08-03
Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING loved the illustrations... relatable poems
Date published: 2017-07-31
Rated 1 out of 5 by from nope. I read a few of her poems on instagram and Tumblr. There's an open dispute going on with her copying Nayyirah Waheed's works. Kaur copied Waheed's style and themes from Waheed's book "Salt" which was released a year earlier than "Milk and Honey". I would not support Kaur given the situation.
Date published: 2017-07-31
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will read it over and over forever I absolutely adore this. So inspiring and I will never be able to say enough good things about it. Highly highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from loved it! So at first I saw this book going wild everywhere(online etc.), and saw quotes and I know I don't relate to the things in the book, but I do relate from stories of others and the way my mind thinks( sounds weird but i promise its not lol) and then I was in english class ( young, yes. anyway moving on..) and I had finished my work and asked the teacher if I could read a book from her poetry cabinet and she asked what I'm like. I told her not sure, modern? and she said I would most likely enjoy this book, and she was right, I bought it the next week to finish it. And even got more people I know, to love it. I don't think I've come across a reader(or/and poetry) who doesn't like this book in anyway. :) Thank you, rupi kaur! <3

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Underwhelming I have to be honest, I was underwhelmed by this one. I've been really wanting to read more modern poetry, because in collections I've read (such as Chasers of the Light by Tyler Knott Gregson) there were lines that have made my heart sing. I want to find more beautiful poetry that will strike me with its mastery of language and warm my heart. Despite the hype, Milk and Honey fell short of the mark for me. I think there were four poems that stood out to me, but not in any profound way. This poetry collection was divided into a few different parts and in her poems Kaur discusses topics like abuse, rape, falling in love, and having a relationship fall apart. Although these issues are very touching, I found that she didn't really do anything different with them. I feel I would have been more impressed if she used more interesting language or thought of unique metaphors. I don't want to sound like a poetry snob (especially because I have read very little poetry), but for a lot of the poems, I felt she was simply writing prose and hitting the "Enter" key a lot. That being said, I did find three or four of the poems that I thought were particularly striking. But only three or four out of the whole book doesn't seem like a success to me. Even though I wasn't a fan, I know that so many people are. You may want to give this one a try, especially if you can relate more to the issues she has dealt with. Personally, I think this one is a bit overhyped! Hopefully, I will be a little more successful on my next poetry adventure.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not excellent but really good! This was my first poetry book, I most say that I really enjoyed it, beautiful words. You can feel the pain in the verses. The book is structured in different stages and the illustrations are really cool.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Despite finding so many quotes that resonated with me, I couldn't connect with the work as a whole, which is why I rated it three stars. Milk and Honey is an interesting collection of poems about hurt, healing, and feminism. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to connect to the message as fully as I'd wanted to. Rapu Kaur is a beautiful writer. Her verse is so poetically beautiful I found myself highlighting many sections that spoke to me. Some were powerful: "Bloom beautifully Dangerously Loudly Bloom softly However you need just bloom" Some reminded me of my own relationship: "Nothing is safer than the sound of you reading out loud to me" And some were empowering: "When you are broken and he has left you do not question whether you were enough the power was you were so enough he was not able to carry it" Despite finding so many quotes that resonated with me, I couldn't connect with the work as a whole, which is why I rated it three stars. I bought my copy for my Kobo and I had issue after issue. The file would constantly freeze and the poems were broken up where they shouldn't have been. This may have contributed to my inability to connect. If I find a cheap physical copy, I'll reread it and probably change my review.
