about

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Harlan Coben, a heart-pounding thriller about the ties we have to our past...and the lies that bind us together.

It's a profile, like all the others on the online dating site. But as NYPD Detective Kat Donovan focuses on the accompanying picture, she feels her whole world explode, as emotions she's ignored for decades come crashing down on her. Staring back at her is her ex-fiancé Jeff, the man who shattered her heart-and who she hasn't seen in 18 years.

Kat feels a spark, wondering if this might be the moment when past tragedies recede and a new world opens up to her. But when she reaches out to the man in the profile, her reawakened hope quickly darkens into suspicion and then terror as an unspeakable conspiracy comes to light, in which monsters prey upon the most vulnerable.

As the body count mounts and Kat's hope for a second chance with Jeff grows more and more elusive, she is consumed by an investigation that challenges her feelings about everyone she ever loved-her former fiancé, her mother, and even her father, whose cruel murder so long ago has never been fully explained. With lives on the line, including her own, Kat must venture deeper into the darkness than she ever has before, and discover if she has the strength to survive what she finds there.

Harlan Coben is the internationally bestselling author of more than twenty previous novels, including the #1 New York Times bestsellers Six Years, Stay Close, Live Wire, Caught, Long Lost, Hold Tight and Six Years as well as the Myron Bolitar series and, more recently, a series aimed at young adults, featuring Myron's nephew, Mickey Bo...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Great Read! I picked up this book on a whim one day and it started my current obsession with suspense/ thriller novels.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great book! One of the better ones by Coben. Enjoyed the unexpected turn of events.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A stellar novel even without Myron and Win (well, mostly) I was addicted to reading this at page one. With an older and not so stellar cop as the lead character, the whole story line took on not so typical feel and didn't stop. With many subplots and heartbreaking stories, all connecting to one Detective Kat Donovan and an online dating site, it was a bit confusing at times but it was all sorted out in the end. A must read!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from frightening, with the will to survive This was a well planned book. The author had me following closely, paying attention so that I wouldn't get lost. He moved back and forth with his characters and scenes, making me puzzle and wonder as we went along. It all came together, slowly, methodically, satisfyingly. What I don't like is human suffering in any arena, and in this book there is a sadistic personality left to his own devices, and scenes that made me wince, but there is also the human will to survive.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Slow Start This is the first Harlan Coben novel I've read and I understand that he is wildly popular. However, I was disappointed in this book. I did like the main character, Kat, and I enjoyed the mystery of the book. But there were a great many characters and subplots in the book as well. I could see how they all eventually came together and I do enjoy that in a novel. Still, Missing You took a long time to really get going. It felt like the first half of the book was spent setting up the various plots and subplots, and introducing characters, to the point where I would have put it down if it hadn't been for the author's reputation. The second half of the book moved way more quickly and was way more suspenseful. Overall, there was something disjointed about the book. It had a good premise, but the descriptions were repetitive and it was hard to get in to.
