Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great thriller with a certain vista into African-American life After learning about Himes' existence on the radio and seeing that Indigo had but a few books at the time, I decided to go ahead with this novel. Did not regret it. Whilst I cannot say that I enjoyed it the way I have enjoyed some Hammett or Chandler, I think its impact on the reader is by no means inferior. The prose might not be as slick but its depth is definitely on par with those others (if not better).
