about

George Orwell's best-known novels, Animal Farm, describing a revolution that goes horribly wrong, and Nineteen Eighty-Four, portraying a world where human freedom has been crushed, are two of the most famous, well-quoted and influential political satires ever written. The other novels in this volume also tell stories of people at odds with repressive institutions: the corrupt imperialism of Burmese Days, disaffection with materialistic society in Keep the Aspidistra Flying, the perils of modern suburban living in Coming Up for Air and surviving on the streets in A Clergyman's Daughter. All the novels brought together here display Orwell's humour, his understanding of human nature and his great compassion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WONDERFUL, PAPERBACK EDITION! The Penguin’s Modern Classics publication of “The Complete Novels of George Orwell” is an edition that every aficionado of Orwell must have in their library. This edition, as is the evident by the title, includes six of the following immortal works by The Master: 1) Animal Farm 2) Burmese Days 3) A Clergyman’s Daughter 4) Coming Up for Air 5) Keep the Aspidistra Flying 6) Nineteen Eighty-Four Please note, that this edition does not include other three books by Orwell: “Down and Out in Paris and London,” “The Road to Wigan Pier,” and of course, Orwell’s most brilliant work, “Homage to Catalonia.” These three books are not included in this edition because they are NOT novels; they are autobiographical and/or diarist works. The primary reason why I would highly recommend this edition of 1186 pages is because of its price of only $20. As I am a student and a bibliophile, I am aware that buying books can a very expensive affair. You get six books in a beautiful, paperback edition. P.S. – If you wish to read my reviews of any of the six books, then please proceed to the individual edition of the book.
