Day and night his Long Island mansion buzzes with bright young things drinking, dancing and debating his mysterious character. For Gatsby - young, handsome, fabulously rich - always seems alone in the crowd, watching and waiting, though no one knows what for. Beneath the shimmering surface of his life he is hiding a secret: a silent longing for the one thing that will always be out of his reach. And soon this destructive obsession will force his world to unravel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A lovely edition I've had my eye on these lovely Penguin Modern Classics editions of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novels and have been buying them one by one. This is The Great Gatsby dolled up in a beautiful deco dust jacket. The text size is fairly large for easy reading. Line it up with The Beautiful and the Damned, Tender is the Night, Tales of the Jazz Age, and This Side of Paradise to make your own roaring 20s collection. A big draw: not only are these novels beautiful to hold, they are also really good stories.
