Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of my favourite books on cinema Boy, this was an eye opening book for me. I had read both Dan Peary Cult Movies books and had gone through both of Golden Retrievers Cult Films editions, and had watched what I thought were the essentials from them (well, not every essential film. I'm not 500 years old). Then came this. Tombs engaging writing style made almost every weird and wacky film from around the world he describes seem like a must see (and they almost all are). Tombs doesn't take an outsider's view of the films either (which many writers of cult films books tend to do), but understands the cultural environment and talent that makes such bizarre films. He seems to genuinely love these oddities. And it's contagious. I devoured this book and continue to search high and low for the wonderful films in it. Luckily the Mondo Macabro DVD label has put out quite a few, and their supplements show all the love that Tombs shows in his book. With his DVD label and this book, Tombs is one of the most important voices in film.
