Rated 4 out of 5 by from Extremely Enjoyable Read! When “Crazy Old Coot” McCord passed on, he left behind a legacy of vast Montana ranch lands, a thriving family business and his obsession to find the “McCord Fortune”; a fortune of gold said to have been stolen from the McCord family over 100 years ago. The town may have called Coot McCord crazy, but when his grandsons were beckoned home to attend his funeral, they took up his search with a fervor matched only by his own. In Montana Destiny, the second of the Montana series by R.C. Ryan, Wyatt McCord has come home to stay. Forced, by his parent, to leave the ranch behind at a young age, Wyatt continued to travel the world, never really finding his place, his home. That is, until his grandfather passed and he returned Gold Fever, Montana for the funeral. After arriving, it took only a matter of minutes for Wyatt realize how much he missed this place, how much a truly belonged here. He knew for certain, this time he wasn’t leaving. He was finally home. Marilee grew up an “army brat” and as such, moved many times, saw many places, and could never really “measure up” to her fathers expectations. After fighting long and hard to be able to call her life her own, Marilee has settled in Gold Fever as their resident EMT. With both her parents gone, it’s a bit of a solitary life, but it’s quiet. She enjoys her freedom and the friendships she’s fostered here. There might not be much in the way of “excitement”, but at last she is truly independent and happy with her lot in life. Attending the local Rodeo and mending those inevitable bruises, cuts and broken bones is all part of the Marilee’s job and today all is going pretty much as usual. That is, until a cowboy comes flying over the fence and, quite literally, lands at her feet. It’s Wyatt McCord. Silver tongued, skirt chasing, really good looking, and trouble with a capital T, Wyatt McCord. Definitely the typical ladies man. Marilee has been avoiding this man for weeks and here he lands right at her feet all full of sweet talkin’ lines and brilliant smiles. And that, as they say, was the beginning of the end for Marilee. My Thoughts While Wyatt has set his sights on a full blow romance with Marilee, she in turn, is determined to keep her hard won independence. Add to the mix, a thrilling adventure surrounding the search for Old Coots gold and those who would do just about anything to keep its secret and you have a really great read! R.C. Ryan has developed a story that will keep readers on their toes. Complete with a very HOT cowboy or two, the search for the lost fortune, and what I like to call really great “giggle moments”, Montana Destiny is an extremely enjoyable read. While it can be easily understood with out reading book one of the series, Montana Legacy, there are some questions I had that made me wish I had started the adventure from the beginning. Needless to say, I’m off to by my copy of Montana Legacy and am anxiously awaiting the release of the final book, Montana Glory in November 2010.
