Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for all ages A delightful story for everyone. As a teacher, I have read this aloud to several classes over the years. It has always held the children's interest. They also learned quite a bit about penguins!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Captain Cook I read this book in grade 4 and all I could remember was the page of all the objects the penguin found around the house, we took turns reading out loud and the teacher said well done to the kid who read this page. Anyway the only other thing I could remember was the title. So I got another copy and I did not put it down. I finished the book at around 2am after repeating to myself numerous times that I would stop at the next chapter. Although it didn't appeal to me as much as when I was a kid, my inner child still found it enjoyable. The illustrations were cute and helped me imagine the penguins. This is definately a book for kids and it has established itself as a classic. I loved Captain Cook's antics and the ending was sweet. I hope your inner child enjoys it as much as mine!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Appeals to a Child's Imagination Mr. Popper, an avid reader of literature concerning the Poles, receives a gift of a penguin from Admiral Cook. What ensues is the story of how he and his family cope with a penguin, and then many more penguins. This is the fourth time, I think, that I have read this so it has lost some of its charm for me. The 7yo enjoyed it well enough. The penguin antics are funny and this is a story that appeals to a child's imagination. Robert Lawson's illustrations are fabulous, as always. A cute, enjoyable story.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mr. Poppers Penguins When I was a kid, my aunt gave me a book for Xmas. It was Mr. Poppers Penguins. I was an avid reader...and Heidi, The Bobbsey Twins, and Black Beauty were among my favorites. For some reason, this book, Mr. Poppers Penguins has stuck in my mind. I remember a lot of things about this book and have to say it is one of my all time favorites. I've thought about it a lot lately, and decided to search the net for the book, not being sure whether I would still be able to find it. I cannot express how happy it made me to find out I can purchase this book at chapters. This is a great book and I'm so thankful my aunt chose it for me so many years ago. My only regret is I do not recall what happened to my copy of that treasured book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Childhood Nearly twenty years has passed since my first reading Mr.Poppers Penguins. I recently came across it at my Grandmother's house, and I could hardly put it down. Not only is it a fascinating story, but it is also a childhood favorite. I highly recommend this book, and will be sure to have a copy for my children!
