about

The post office is closed, and that means it's time for Mr. Postmouse and his family to take a vacation. Of course, he'll need to bring along a few parcels --- ?a postmouse's rounds are never done!? --- as he and Mrs. Mouse, Milo, Lulu and Pip set off on an around-the-world tour. Doing whatever it takes to reach their destinations (including traveling by hot-air balloon, cruise ship and camel!), the intrepid mouse family treks from the forest to the sea, the desert to the ice field, finding adventure, new discoveries and animal friends at every far-flung stop. And all along the way, Mr. Postmouse never misses a delivery!

The pages of this humorous, playful follow-up to Mr. Postmouse's Rounds from award-winning author and illustrator Marianne Dubuc overflow with clever details. The simple story of the mouse family's trip is used to transport children from one fantastically imagined place to the next. Perfect for encouraging visual literacy, this picture book will delight readers and prereaders as they explore it again and again, searching the busy artwork for something new and unexpected, including the cross-section drawings that allow a peek inside the animals' homes and the many stories-within-a-story appearing in every spread. The scenes provide a terrific introduction to the concepts of community and neighborhoods, as well as modes of transportation. This book would make a whimsical lead-in to a life science lesson on animals' habitats, or to discussions about the world's cultures and geography.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Cuddle Up Book Mr. Postmouse Takes a Trip by Marianne Dubuc - auteure et illustratrice and published by Kids Can Press is just so, so, so, cute! A sweet little story about a postmouse and his family going on vacation, but his rounds are never done and he takes some deliveries along. This story is perfect for your littlest readers. The illustrations are so chock full of detail and little surprises. You will read this book again and again and still not see every little thing hidden on every page. Dubuc so cleverly creates this wonderful simple story that is so perfect for cuddling up someplace special and sharing a little bit of quiet time with your little one. Not a book I would especially recommend as a read aloud as the story is just so much better suited for a sweet little cuddle session.

I love these look and find stories by Marianne Dubuc. Each page is filled with something to discover and talk about. Young readers can follow his route as each parcel is revealed, and new domains are explored. A book that can be looked at and read over and over.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You invited to come along. It's a wonderful adventure. Finally, it's vacation time for Mr. Postmouse! He and his family can't wait. Come on, pack your bags and let's tag along shall we? Mr. Postmouse just can't resist bringing packages and parcels to deliver to his friends along the way. It's in his DNA to deliver, deliver, deliver. Not only will he deliver a great vacation for his family but deliver coveted packages to his friends along the journey as well. His little family will visit destinations all around the world. Have you ever travelled in a hot air balloon, lazed on the sandy beach of your choice, dug for buried treasure on a far away remote island, or ridden a camel across the desert under the scorching blistering-hot sun? These are just a few things that are on his itinerary. Are you up for it? Think we can keep up? Let's get going as there's new adventures waiting us. The illustrations are so imaginative and creative. They overflow with humour and detail that will have kids going back again and again to discover something new that Dubuc has included. The book encourages visual literacy which allows kids to invoke their own interpretations and storylines. I especially adore the cross-section drawings on every spread that gives a peek into the interior of the homes of animals Mr. Postmouse encounters. You get a taste of different communities and their inhabitants and the whole vibe of the book is one of excitement, discovery and adventure. The whimsical illustrations are sheer delight! This book, like all of Dubuc's others, will not disappoint. Every single one of them have been magical. She is one of my favourites.
