about

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

One day, sad cubicle dweller and otherwise bored New York transplant Hannah Hart decided, as a joke, to make a fake cooking show for her friend back in California. She turned on the camera, pulled out some bread and cheese, and then, as one does, started drinking. (Doesn't everyone cook with a spoon in one hand and a bottle of wine in the other?) The video went viral and an online sensation was born.

My Drunk Kitchen includes recipes, stories, full color photos, and drawings to inspire your own culinary adventures in tipsy cooking. It is also a showcase for Hannah Hart's great comedic voice. Hannah offers key drink recommendations, cooking tips (like, remember to turn the oven off when you go to bed) and shares never-before-seen recipes such as:

  • The Hartwich (Knowledge is ingenuity! Learn from the past!)
  • Can Bake (Inventing things is hard! You don't have to start from scratch!)
  • Latke Shotkas (Plan ahead to avoid a night of dread!)
  • Tiny Sandwiches (Size doesn't matter! Aim to satisfy.)
  • Saltine Nachos (It's not about resources! It's about being resourceful.)

This is a book for anyone who believes they have what it takes to make a soufflé for the holiday party and show up the person who apparently has nothing better to do than bake things from scratch. It also recommends the drink you'll need to accompany any endeavor of this magnitude. In the end, My Drunk Kitchen may not be your go-to guide for your next dinner party . . . but it will make you laugh and drink . . . I mean think . . . about life.

One day,HANNAH HARTdecided to make a cooking show and get drunk while doing it. "My Drunk Kitchen" was received with much critical acclaim from aspiring alcoholics everywhere, earning (to date) over 66 million views on her YouTube channel. Hannah has been featured in Time magazine, onCBS News, BoingBoing, LA Weekly, Marie Claire, and m...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from do not buy if you're looking for a real cook book Hannah is a brilliant human. This book has a lot of her natural humour but you can tell she worked really hard to make something she is proud of.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not your average cookbook. A fun read for fans of the youtube channel. I think this is a fun read for fans of Hannah Hart’s You Deserve A Drink youtube channel, but I’d find it hard to see how someone who is not a fan would rate this book. Wouldn’t pick it up if you’re looking for a cookbook. Short, funny, full of puns, advice and recipes you’d expect from Hannah Hart. If you’re looking for more of a memoir/to learn more about Hannah, I’d recommend her second book Buffering.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My words cannot begin to give this proper justice. Just buy the book. It'll be the best decision you have made!! This is not your typical cooking/recipe book. It is so much more than that. Hannah Hart is brilliant, smart and punny. Yes, it has interesting recipes, but it also has amazing life advice, which is on point and mixed with light 'hart'ed humour. Not only can you come out of it with crazy awesome recipes, you begin to have a better appreciation and love for yourself. Its just...she gets you! Do yourself a favour, treat yourself, buy this book!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Scattered but funny This book is, not surprisingly, a lot like Hannah's webseries My Drunk Kitchen: questionable recipes, and scattered, vague "life lessons" with a tenuous connection at best to the recipe at hand. While Hannah's signature humour is definitely present, I felt that her advice wasn't particularly useful and her stories sometimes seemed like they deflected around concealed emotions or events. I also didn't feel like I would ever turn to this book's recipes if I was looking to cook something. While I was a little disappointed in the content of this book, it was funny, the images were beautiful and I overall enjoyed Hannah's first book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hannah Hart is the best. Hannah Hart just gets it. It's like reading the words of your cool older sister who has learned a lot about herself. It's my favourite thing reading about someone who is open minded and very interested in growing as a person. This book was filled with great advice and some fun cooking recipes to help you get by:)

Editorial Reviews

“Maybe cooking isn’t about creating culinarily perfect flavor art—maybe cooking is just part of living a life that you enjoy and that makes the world suck less. I’m not saying Hannah’s food isn’t good, but her ideas are butter...ahem...better.”
