Babies have a lot to say! My First Baby Signs introduces ten of the most popular signs and provides parents a place to begin. Once baby waves bye–bye, the possibilities are endless.

Baby signing is easy and natural. Infants and toddlers can learn how to say what they need, what they see, and even what they feel long before their vocal chords are developed enough to let them use actual words. Both books include the most popular signs and provide parents a place to begin ‘talking‘ with their little one from the start. In this revolutionary breakthrough in parent

Rated 5 out of 5 by from so practical and useful! Like all of Linda Accredolo's baby signs board books, this one is a winner. This sturdy book will withstand the tough love from a toddler while helping them learn baby signs. Each double page spread features the word, a picture of a baby or toddler signing the word, and then various pictures of that word. For example, the word "more" will show a stack of cookies and more juice being poured into a cup. The reason I believe these books are so effective is that they show an actual photo of a baby (not an illustration) doing the sign. My children (now 3 and 6) loved flipping through the books and copying the babies on the pages. While we started signing to them around 6 months, it wasn't until about 10 months that they started signing back, and then they were teaching themselves new signs by looking at these books. Some people think that perhaps learning baby signs will delay speech, but that definitely is not the case. Baby signs help facilitate communication. Babies start to learn that communication is a two-way street. They are so happy when they are able to communicate with you, and will continue to do more and more when they see your ecstatic reaction. How wonderful is it when you have a 12 month old baby who, instead of crying while you try to figure out what's wrong, will be able to tell you if they are hungry, thirsty, tired, need a new diaper or just that they hear a dog barking? Using these board books, along with positive and constant reinforcement, will allow you to enjoy communicating with your child so much more!
