This comical, fantastical, romantical, New York Times bestselling, (not) entirely true story of Lady Jane Grey is “an uproarious historical fantasy that’s not to be missed” (Publishers Weekly, starred review).

In My Lady Jane, coauthors Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows have created a one-of-a-kind YA fantasy in the tradition of The Princess Bride, featuring a reluctant king, an even more reluctant queen, a noble steed, and only a passing resemblance to actual history—because sometimes history needs a little help.

At sixteen, Lady Jane Grey is about to be married off to a stranger and caught up in a conspiracy to rob her cousin, King Edward, of his throne. But those trifling problems aren’t for Jane to worry about. Jane gets to be Queen of England.

Like that could go wrong.

Cynthia Hand is the New York Times bestselling author of the Unearthly series with HarperTeen: Unearthly, Hallowed, Radiant (an enovella) and Boundless, and the NYT bestselling contemporary, The Last Time We Say Goodbye. She teaches courses in creative writing at Boise State University. Her book, My Lady Jane, (cowritten with Brodi Ash...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Such a Funny and Fun Read This was quite literally the funniest book I have read since I was younger. Almost every page brought a smile to my face, and on several occasions an out loud snort of laughter. I'm a big fan of well-done historical fiction, and although this is in fact the farthest thing from 'historical' I loved every minute. When I finished, I went and looked up the history of Jane Grey, the 9-day queen, and was impressed by how much was actually true. Of course, the turning-into-animals bit was a new addition, as was certain people not dying, but it was all so well done. I was also surprised by how well done the triple POV written by three separate authors was. The voices throughout were solid, consistent and so funny. Each character themselves was so endearing and relatable, and good lord did I get the feels. My only complaint was I wanted more. When we finally got some action scenes, like a bear fight and a trip to France, they were skipped over and far too short. In reality, it makes my review 4.5/5. I see they're doing one for Jane Eyre next. Um ... yes, yes, yes!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hilarious, magical, and a fantastic cast of characters. A beautifully written novel by some of the best authors. This book will not let you down. My Lady Jane features the story of three main characters, a dying King Edward, Lady Jane who is set to become the next Queen and Guildford Dudley, the man Jane has been forced to marry. With a fantastic addition of magic to classic history, this book easily became one of my favourites. I fell in love with Jane right from the beginning, she is so intelligent and determined, any book lover will fall in love with her immediately. Throughout the book, we see her open up to people, go out of her comfort zone and become a truly amazing character. I also really liked Guildford, her was entertaining and hilarious right from the beginning. I wasn't a huge fan of Edward in the beginning. He was whiny and kind of annoying. He was really clueless not only about his safety but also the relationships he has and what is truly going on around him. After about third of the book, his story really picks up and I really started to enjoy his point of view. His character development was really wonderful. The world that the authors created was fantastic. The world building was great and every setting was very different yet you could picture it clearly. These three authors created such an amazing book, not only do you get some valuable history lessons, but it also contains breathtaking fantasy ensuring that the reader never gets bored. Their jokes were absolutely hilarious, I found myself laughing out loud every few chapters. Overall, I highly recommend this book to all YA fans, whether you like fantasy, historical fiction or contemporary. I'm sure you'll fall in love with this one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not What I Was Expecting, But So Funny Have you ever wondered what would happen if people tried to write a historical fiction novel after a couple of bottles of wine? Because that's pretty much what My Lady Jane is, and it's absolutely brilliant. This is one of the few books that actually had me laughing out loud as I listened to it. It was so ridiculous and so brilliant and there were so many good things happening throughout. It's definitely geared more towards the younger YA crowd, but don't let that scare you away from it. Jane, G, and Edward are all brilliant characters, and the pacing and progression of this book are very well done. It's one of the few where the alternating points of view didn't really take away from the book itself, and I don't say that about many books.  If you're going into this book expecting a traditional historical fiction story, you're going to be out of luck. But if you want a very creative reimagining of how English history might have done, this might just be your cup of tea. Definitely curious to see what the next book in this series is going to take the story of Jane Eyre.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It was alright I thought this was book was extremely comical and the characters were an absolute delight but something held me back from loving it which I think could have possibly been the writing. I would recommend it if you would like a light read though.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The narrators ruin an otherwise good story My Lady Jane is a comedic (and romantic) retelling of Jane Grey's nine-day rule of England. Normally I would enjoy this kind of story, and the plot definitely had great potential. The characters were interesting, although rather light in depth or development. It even had a fantastic element to it, featuring characters who could turn into animals. I liked the lighter tone of the story, and the literary Easter eggs were fun - but the narrators completely ruined it for me. They were irritating, overly sarcastic and cutesy, and often just pulled the story out of the time period completely. The constant interruptions were totally unnecessary - the story would have been light and humorous enough on it's own. It was totally overkill, and has turned me off from reading the next book in the series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This book was such a delight!! I had so much fun reading this!! The characters were witty, charming, and lovable. The story, even though loosely based on history, was unique and refreshing. This was a fast paced and intriguing read - seriously, you should read it!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome!!! I read this book a year ago and it is by far one of my favourite books. The story has a sarcastic edge to it which makes it fun to read. The story is comprised of the private thoughts of the three characters, each chapter in one of the characters point of view. It takes place in the 16th century (it think) and is somewhat historical, but there is a "fairy tale" twist (people turning into animals). It is romantic, funny and full of exiting new twists and action. Overall I really loved the book!!!
