This book is a memoirs my mother, Nurse Myra Bennett, wrote in the 1960s. My mother was not only a wife and mother and nurse, she was a shoulder to dry on in times of sorrow. She was a shelter in a storm, she was an educator, she was the lady with the lantern, and most of all she was a warm and loving human Dr. Noel Murphy once said, "There will never be another Nurse Bennett and hopefully there will never be such need."

Excerpt from foreword by Myra's son, Trevor Bennett

Myra Grimsley was born in London, England, in 1890. She served as a nurse in England for ten years before coming to Daniel's Harbour on Newfoundland's Northern Peninsula in 1921. She was known simply as The Nurse along the 200 miles of coast that was her responsibility. After her 1922 marriage to Angus Bennett, she and her equally hard working and dedicated husband were affectionately known as The Nurse and Angus.
