The King knows there are those in the noble Twelve Houses who could use this growing dissent to overthrow him. So he dispatches the mystic Senneth to assess the threat throughout the realm. Accompanying her is a motley band of magic-users and warriors including Tayse, first among the King’s Riders—who holds a hard view of mystics in general, and Senneth in particular.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Capturing!! The characters are diverse and intriguing. A plot filled with adventure and new surprises. Senneth is a powerful woman, yielding a firy magic with honor and determination. She is not alone in her struggles in a country on the brink of war. Protected by Tayse and Justin, both King's Riders. Senneth is friend to Kirra, a high-born shapeshifter and her shapeshifter companion Donnal. As well as a rescued recruit, Cammon, who is able to sense anothers thoughts. I couldn't put it down. Entertaining and fascinating, a great find!
