H.P. Lovecraft's tales of the tentacled Elder God Cthulhu and his pantheon of alien deities were initially written for the pulp magazines of the 1920s and '30s. These astonishing tales blend elements of horror, science fiction and cosmic terror that are as powerful today as they were when they were first published.

This handsome tome collects together the very best of Lovecraft's tales of terror, including the complete Cthulhu Mythos cycle, just the way they were originally published. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome Collection While this book doesn't include all of his work it's definitely all of H.P. Lovecrafts major stories. I'd suggest it as a primer for the Cthulu mythos. My one complaint is the formatting of the text; in a few spots it has the font italicized to try and put emphasis on dramatic parts of the stories, I find it to be a little irritating (but that's just my opinion.) All in all it's a good book for a fair price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wasn't In Love With It So I know that this collection is a book filled with great short stories but I wasn't in love with it. I found that some of the stories couldn't keep my attention and my mind wandered. Also, The Lurking Fear, had a few spelling mistakes and I immediately get turned off of something that has spelling mistakes. I know this is supposed to be a must read for horror fans but it didn't draw me in.

Preposterous, overblown, absurd in every way - yet with an originality that looks more powerful and convincing each time I dip into it.-PHILIP PULLMAN
