When the beast leaves his lair…
Labeled a lunatic and a reprobate, Lord Jason Lockwood finds solace in debauchery outside the realm of Polite Society. Scarred both inside and out, Jason can’t possibly hope to regain a place within the ton…until he meets an alluring and persuasive young lady. When she offers to help him reclaim respectability, he’s tempted not by the possibility of a better reputation, but by the lure of seduction. With her by his side, he not only sees what he’s been missing, but also how much he stands to lose.

A beauty’s touch provokes his desire…
Lady Lydia Prewitt is everything a debutante should be: beautiful, dowried, and in possession of a sterling reputation. But Lydia’s former life as a gossip has ensured a lonely path. When the opportunity to assist the scandalous yet seductive Lord Lockwood gain entry into London’s best ballrooms, she glimpses a chance for a future she never dreamed of—if he’s willing to meet her halfway. But how can she risk falling in love with a scoundrel if it means joining him in exile?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never judge a book by it's rumor! Lady Lydia is, unfortunately, living with her aunt, Lady Margaret. The worst gossip in the ton. She relentlessly seeks out every tidbit of information she can get and uses it to get ahead not caring whom she hurts in the process but usually using that as her goal. Lady Lydia is another source of information for her though a reluctant one. If Lydia wants to stay in London then she has no choice but to do as her aunt says. She is Lady Margarets link to the younger crowd and their gossip! Lydia's only other option is to go home to live with her Father. She has no friends there, in the country, no one her age and no prospects of marriage. Just the sheep. Lord Jason Lockwood is a notoriously scandalous reprobate. His "vice" parties are legendary and very well attended. Apparently the gentleman of the ton are ok with his parties but not okay with him dancing with their daughters. You see, Lord Lockwood is not accepted into polite society! But Lydia can't seem to shake 5he feeling that his banishment is unwarranted. He seems gentlemanly enough. Though his face is scared, his manners are good. Maybe it's just the rumors that are bad? She sets out to get the gossip for her aunt, but ends up trying to help Lord Lockwood and the recent new man in society, who happens to be Jason's illegitimate brother. Ethan Locke had had a very long criminal career under the name of Jagger. Now he is trying to make a place for himself among the ton. Jason is not happy about this at all! He is a Lord and they won't accept him, but they will accept that whelp from the wrong side of the blanket? He needs to figure out what Jagger is up to. Lydia will figure greatly in this quest. Though he knows he should leave her alone, he is drawn to her. This was a wonderful story, the characters are thoughtfully written, complex people. All of the main players few my sympathy. I felt sorry for Lydia in the fact that she felt she had no one, as well as Jason. He was cold for many reasons. And Ethan, just wanted to have a family. Children born out of wedlock in those days were completely shunned, so Ethan and Jason did not get along, Jason feeling that his father gave Ethan more affection. I'm sure this happened quite often in those times. It's all very sad. This book left me feeling hopeful though! Things are not always a they seem. And you should never judge a book by its cover, or a Lord by the rumors. Fantastic read! I truly love the way this author draws me in and holds my attention. Not letting me go until she had told her tale. Laundry be damned! Quite a bit of heat in this one too.
